Or squad depth in CB is basically
Chanot + Callens followed by Sands and Ibeagha. That's not enough depth, as we just saw over the last stretch of games.

We’re hoping no more injuries and we shouldn’t have a prolonged international tournament where Peru makes the finals again this season. Callens is now well rested, as he barely played. But had been training to stay in shape when he returns tomorrow.

We've also got Ring who often plays there, and Sweat and Rocha who are apparently trusted backups (even if they're not very good ones). So I doubt we're in the market for another CB.

I'm more worried about RB - if Tinnerholm goes down then we don't have a single replacement who can come anywhere near his level. That's the only spot on the team where that's true.

Yes.

And I actually think Sweat would make a decent LCB in a 3 center back line, at least moreso than I like him at LB or LWB

JP Torres? Seemed decent albeit against lower level opposition.

So our transfer strategy is to entice young talent from untapped overseas markets and develop them into players who could one day play in Europe, but also to immediately sell them at a loss if they don't tear up the league within six months?
If they show little signs of promise, you gotta cut bait if you can.

Maxi still had a solid year 1, and actually the majority on here saw that. A few vocal critics were around, but that was mainly (imo) because he wasn't a highlight reel player. While his first year was quieter than subsequent years, he was still a lockdown starter and a key part of the team that year.
Mitrita probably doesn't belong in our XI right now.

I am of the belief that he needed to be a superstar on this team for the amount of money we paid. That said, we've seen glimpses and I'd like to give him more time.

He is on pace for 8-10 goals this season, and while that's not a superstar, it's still pretty good.

That’s definitely not good for your #1 DP forward who doesn’t also provide assists nor contributes to the team ethos of swarming defense and pressing.

And he’s 4th on the team of four forwards for production on the most game time by 200minutes.

I agree that he hasn't been good enough, I just don't think he's been as bad as some on here are trying to say. He needs to be better, and he will be better. We have one of the best teams in MLS, we can afford to be patient with a guy who is clearly rated highly by the organization. I don't think he's going to turn into another Medina.

Medina was highly rated too.

Don’t put so much blind faith in the scouting dept when the eye test shows his selfishness and lack of motor when the ball doesn’t go through him. Being the big man in the Romanian league doesn’t mean he’ll be successful in another league where defense is actually played.

Maxi stunk his first year
Maxi had 5G/9A his first season. His stats were lower than hoped because many times an extra pass was made, nullifying his eligibility for an assist, but more typically the ball was placed where it should be and the receiving player muffed it.

I think Maxi was a little wary of asserting his role in Year 1 and his bigger problem was he arrived the year we lost Lampard and nobody scored regularly but Villa, especially in the second half. Wallace had 4 goals in the first 13 games and no more. Harrison had 7 goals in the first 17 games and 3 in the last 17 games. We needed a 10-15 goal scorer as our second DP, especially when Villa also slumped in the second half (six straight games without a goal), plus the team went 8 straight games with 0 or 1 goal, and Maxi was not him (and probably was never meant to be him). The team has been signing purported goal scorers ever since but the DP part of that has not paid off yet.

Mitrita could yet work out. It's annoying he's not contributing in other ways. That should be the easiest fix. It's especially damning that he sees what's happened to Medina and his playing time and has not changed his course. I'm also worried that Mitrita and his teammates are currently in a negative cycle, where they don't pass him the ball because he never gives it back and he just shoots even more than he might have because he's not getting the service he thinks he should be getting.

I would be shocked if he is moved midseason. We have an extremely conservative [in a non-political sense] management and ownership.

What is Mitrita on track for?

What is Mitrita on track for?
1.) They are not the same player, in the same role, or have the same G/A expectations.

2.) G/A tell about 50% of the story in soccer. So Mitrita is 50% average, 50% a failure.

The fact that our manager has repeatedly pulled him from games for no apparent strategic purpose tells us all we need to know.
He has not played a full 90' in over 3 months, and much of that is coaches decision. When Maxi was healthy, he played.

So you agree goals and assists aren’t the way to make the case here for Maxi’s first year?

My point is that all of our DPs except Villa have underperformed in their first year.

Nobody has made the case, based solely on G/A, on Maxi's first year.
And I agree with your second point, but disagree with your conclusion. We should not sign DP'S for their 2nd year and beyond. Medina is not the bar we are setting.

4 413Blue agree Mitrita has been disappointing.

Patience, grasshopper
It's my star DP, and I want it now!
