Good stuff. I think some of the worrying about Medina is misplaced. Let's see what Year 2 brings. He was 6 goals and 7 assists this year, which is good to begin with. It's not everything we want or should expect long term, but it's reasonable to think we will get more next year.
I think people also set very lofty expectations for him. I know before the season, people were discussing him as hopefully being our Almiron. Those are huge expectations to fill, so I think people were more hostile when he didn't fill into that role. I personally would like to see him in a more central midfield role. The times he played on the inside next to Maxi, I feel like him and Maxi both moved well and played off of each other well. I also think the adjustment period was huge for him. Would love to see something like this potentially:

Taty - TBD - ITS
Maxi - Medina
Ring
Sweat - Callens - Chanot - Tinnerholm

Feel like a line up like this would give us plenty of pace up front and two wingers who aren't afraid to go at defenders. If Medina can stop falling ever 5 seconds and put a little muscle on him, I feel he and Maxi would be able to control the midfield and have Ring playing the sweeper in front of the back line.

Yup.

Didn't Isi play more on the right under Torrent, especially late in the season?

That's right, see the chart below. But bear in mind that most of this was in the 4-2-3-1. The couple times we saw the 4-1-4-1 it was primarily Taty playing as a natural right winger outside Medina. If we move to that system I expect Isi will play up the left sideline on his preferred foot.

Some would argue perfectly reasonable expectations for anyone taking up a DP slot on a club with an ownership group that proclaims grand aspirations the way CFG does.

Edit: to expand a bit. The guy couldn't make it on the field for our first Atlanta playoff game and then looked terrible when he played the second leg. I think people are going pretty easy on Medina, advocating for patience to see what he can do in year two. I also think it has nothing to do with Medina, he seems like a young player with potential but when a DP isn't good enough to make the starting 11 for a playoff game that's a complete failure by the front office.

Does anyone have any stats on Medina before and after he got injured and pre and post Vieira exit. IIRC he was pretty effective in the first half of the season and less so as the season progressed.

FWIW, I'm not happy with him as a DP either lol. Wish we could of left him unprotected.

Yeah, I'm not against using one of our DP slots on a young DP I just feel like they need to target players that are slightly more established and a bit less raw than Medina. I'm not going to be unreasonable as say we should be getting Almiron level players but somewhere in the middle of Medina and Almiron in terms of upside and being ready to contribute year 1 seems like a reasonable expectation.

He cost us $4.6 million last year.
You could be pedantic, but in reality the transfer fee is spread out over the length of his contract for his budget charge. The extra cap savings we get from him being a youth DP needs to accounted for as well. Over the length of his contract, he will cost us probably around a million a year.
