Seeing full kit on players makes me like way more. Which is always the case lol The new MLS name/number kit looks amazing.
For what it's worth if you go to the Man City site to get a jersey none of them come with the patches and there's a section where you can add them on if you want them.none of the kits have the patch on, have to be purchased separately. Picture was probably a mistake by MLS or maybe they are charging more for kits with the patch already on? Something may have gotten lost in translation? I can't say why they have the patch.

Funny how they do this now. I did something similar with the inaugural jerseys and sent it to them and they never responded. Now they do it with this design. Haha

Wait. You need to pay for a sponsor patch? Why would anyone do that...After some consumer investigation...
- Kits for 2020 and going forward will only have a league patch on a single sleeve. The other sleeve is reserved for a sponsor. If there is not sleeve sponsor, it will be blank.
- The base price for an authentic kit with no league patch or sponsor: $130
-> Can currently be purchased from adidas
- An authentic kit with a league patch, no sponsor: $135
-> Can currently be purchased through Fanatics
- An authentic kit with a league patch and sponsor: $140
-> Only LAFC and Atlanta have sleeve sponsors
- An authentic kit with a league patch, sponsor, and name/number customization: $165
-> I've only seen major players have customization options online (Vela, Martinez, Chichatiro)
So a league patch is $5, a sponsor patch is $5, and name/number customization is $25.
-> I don't think you'll be able to buy an authentic kit with only a league patch or sponsor patch (if a team has a sleeve sponsor) directly from a retailer. I'm unsure of current retailers that sell the league patch to get pressed onto a kit.
The only source for this is the Sun and the reporting doesn't mention a length of contract -- seems awfully large (even lumped in with stadium naming rights) unless it's for 20 years.Inter Miami just signed a $215 million kit sponsorship deal with Qatar
What’s fascinating about this is that unless somebody has business in Qatar, the average person is not going there for a vacation compared to Europe, South America, or Asia. The average person is not flying on their airline as their routes are limited. The marketing value of Qatar saturating the football jersey spectrum is really perplexing - it cannot be moving the needle very much. It may be a form of sportswashing, but does any really think better of the country because they throw money at their favorite soccer team???Inter Miami just signed a $215 million kit sponsorship deal with Qatar
Yeah it's interesting. I've heard / read a couple of things about sportswashing which are compatible with your observations, for example:What’s fascinating about this is that unless somebody has business in Qatar, the average person is not going there for a vacation compared to Europe, South America, or Asia. Contrast that to a company with an everyday product, be it Chevy, or Volkswagen, or Carlsberg, or AIG, or even the betting companies..... the average Joe may need a new car and checks out the company, or life insurance, or an addiction to gambling - they all appeal to the masses. A tiny middle eastern country with human rights issues..... eh, not so much.
It definitely has the possibility of producing a numbing effect to the masses. But with me specifically, all this jersey money is doing is further reminding me of a country that cheated their way to hosting a WC and subsequently created/perpetuated an indentured servitude/slave society to build their modernization & infrastructure efforts for their miserable ruling class.Yeah it's interesting. I've heard / read a couple of things about sportswashing which are compatible with your observations, for example:
1) it's not about creating advocates but quietening potential detractors. People are less likely to protest against something when associations with that brand are everywhere and either positive or neutral.
That probably doesn't mean that people take that brand / state's _side_ but it makes them less suspicious or hostile, or less likely to vocalize their hostility to that brand when they are somewhat familiar. Compare that to a brand / state that hasn't built up all of those associations and imagine what peoples' general xenophobic reaction might be.
2) Ownership and sponsorship of sporting institutions is just one more source of leverage which can be used to create yet more leverage or cultural and political influence. It makes them more credible and gets them in contact with more people in high places.

I'd say we are in the minority unfortunately. It definitely has the possibility of producing a numbing effect to the masses.
