I'll be happy with him as the next Jonathan Lewis.
Jon Lewis is a part-time starter on a mid-table MLS team. I hope to not be saying that about Jasson in 4 years.

A questionable distinction considering recent events.
I wouldn't mind Jasson showing some Jonathan Lewis in this season. An spark of energy of the bench, stretching the pitch and scoring some late goals.
However, as you mentioned, I hope to not be saying this about Jasson in 4 years. Jonathan Lewis hasn't seemed to improve at all from his rookie year, or developed much other skills. He still isn't anything other than a late offensive sub against tired legs.
Jonathan Lewis is a contributor that scored 5 goals in 705 minutes last year. Our leaders were Castellanos with 6 goals in 1341 minutes and Medina with 5 goals in 1495 minutes. Goals are a highly flawed shortcut for evaluating production, but any HG that is a contributor is a success in binary terms, IMO.
I think the above commenters show a combination of slightly too high expectations for Jasson and slightly too low rating of Lewis.

I don't see any unreasonable expectations for Jasson above. Especially since most of them seem longer term past this season.
But I won't back down from Lewis not developing much at all.
He's a guy who doesn't provide a whole lot when he starts, and he's not really capable of going a full 90 minutes, only doing that three times over the last three seasons.
He's materially less effective when starting vs off the bench. Last season, two of his goals came from his 8 starts. The other three came from off the bench, where he got 5, 17, and 35 minutes in those matches. He recorded 0 assists last season.
Going back to 2018, he has an Avg Goals per 90 of 0.37 when he starts vs 0.72 off the bench.
None of the above addresses his much discussed defensive liabilities.
I like Jonathan Lewis. I would love to have him available off the bench as an option if we need to goal. Or even late to be a nuisance to the opponent when we're chasing a lead (can dump the ball deeper and have him chase). But he hasn't appeared to develop a whole lot. I don't think many disagree that he really didn't impress in the U-23 tournament either.
I don't think it's unreasonable to think, or really hope (as nearly all were saying above), that he turns into a more productive and/or useful player. Someone that can be reliable as a starter and is capable of putting in the defensive work on the wing, something that is incredibly important to Ronny's system.
I think we are splitting hairs because I don't disagree with any of that. I'm using Jon Lewis as a floor for "contributor," and saying mentally I'm prepared to accept anything at that level or above as a job well done by our academy. Optimistically, we could get lots more out of Jasson than Lewis had we kept him around.

The teams could not reach an agreement on price or payment structure.
So #NYCFC is not losing it’s only healthy striker.
I had also heard that talks have started on an extension.
Roberto also alluded that there may be delays or a cancelation to the brazilian season due to covid getting worse down there. he said this during the twitter live "pre game" show with glenn crooks on sunday like an hour before the DC game.

The possibility of seasons getting cancelled or delayed in other countries is an interesting, tough heart-breaking, tidbit. Now that the US is in the unlikely position of leading the world in vaccination percentages, I wonder if that wouldn't make MLS more attractive for players, especially for short term loans.
tough break for taty. i bet he would have enjoyed playing at such a huge, legendary club in SA. I'm glad he'll probably still be with us but I hope it doesn't kill his motivation with us if this news is true. Much like lucho acosta's motivation was killed at DC after his PSG transfer talks fell through...
so it seems palmeiras cancelled all their attempts at signings due their finances taking a hit due to covid. at least that is what palmeiras twitter is saying. still, taty can still be motivated to get good numbers to be selected for the olympics and play maybe get euro scouts take notice there.
of course. not saying he doesn't have other motivations to consider. just depends on his mental strength to say "ok.. that one didn't work out, but i can still try for this and this.." and keep working hard. After Acosta's PSG transfer fell through, he was so bad he barely played. Went from a key playmaker to benchwarmer almost instantly. Just don't want that for Taty. He's got potential to be really good if he improves in some key areas and plays stronger (i.e., no flops)
So last week they made an offer to buy Taty and this week they basically cancelled everything? It's amazing how common stuff like that is in businesses on the verge of catastrophe.
