2022 General MLS Transfer Rumors

While we are still going through a global pandemic, and in a league that depends a lot more on stadium ticket sales than the big European leagues. I don't understand the logic of the move from a $$$$ standpoint. Insigne is great, but he is not a Fortnite-avatar-ready kinda household name for casual fans and non-fans who could justify the move through merch sales, etc.

Not to mention TFC are not 1 player away from being a top team in the league. Seems like a whole lot of money to spend on one guy when that money could be spent on 3-4 high quality members that could become a core of the team for at least a few years. TFC seems like they are in a rebuilding stage. Insigne signing doesn't seem like a rebuilding type of signing but a desperation signing.

Nashville is about to become really scary.

On the other side, we have the potential (the way this offseason is going for RB) to absolutely rout them this year

lol. that's what we said in 2021 and look what happened.

which is why im not really hyping them too much yet. They will have to face and go to the seattles portlands SKC more often now and they are not a good road team but tremendous at home. also they will start the season on the road since their stadium wont be ready until May i think.

This is how MLS becomes a big league. The more players that get transferred to bigger leagues in Europe, the more young talented players will want to come here.

Because it’s the off season and we could always use some more discussion, I feel like this is something that could be delved into more. Currently the majority opinion on the forum is that MLS is/wants to be a selling league. So I’m curious on everyone’s perspective. Has mls hit that milestone? Are they a selling league that attracts young talent to send to Europe or is the league not there yet? Why or why not? Which begs the question. If the league is a selling league wouldn’t the next and final step be to be a league to rival the premier league, La liga, and the Bundesliga. or are their other steps before then? That’s obviously a far way off but how long would it take for the league to reach that level and what would the league/teams have to do to reach that level? Can it be done with parity? What are your thoughts?

PS: ZYanksRule ZYanksRule thank you for letting me quote you because you gave me these thoughts. In no way am I asking you to answer these questions nor am I calling you out.

Holy shit this is HUGE for the MLS.
The deal will be worth around $20 million plus add-ons, making him the most expensive outgoing MLS homegrown player – at least upfront – after Vancouver Whitecaps FC transferred Alphonso Davies to Bayern Munich in 2018.

The deal is not completely done, but is in the final stages. Pepi is en route to Germany to complete his medical on Sunday and make the move official.

You name the top 3 leagues in Europe. I'd say there are still several steps before then. At what point do players no longer want to move from MLS to Serie A or Ligue 1 or SPL for that matter (Sands)? At what point do players in their primes (or pre-prime) in Serie A or Ligue 1 come to MLS?

When do we stop even talking about Palmeiras buying our talent or a flawed but still important piece of our championship team going to Moscow as the next step in his career?

When do our payrolls rival / surpass Liga MX? For that matter, when do we win CCL? When does CCL become dominated by MLS?

Lots of steps before talking about rivaling the big 3 leagues.

Good move for Colorado, imo.
