2023 Leagues Cup

absolutely amazing. was this the domination of miami or philly playing intimidated or a bit of both? definitely class and clinical finishing from miami. blake mistakes and philly defense just did not seem as relentless as they usually are... especially when they play against us lol. they foul us a whole hell of a lot more i feel like?
Curtin put all his eggs into the "lets stop Busquets" basket, presuming that would slow Miami down. Not a bad idea, TBH. But, his team took that too literally by not even attempting to pressure the ball when anyone else had it, thus making a bad CB look like he's Beckenbauer splitting lines with through balls for Messi, Martinez, and Alba. Decent-ish initial plan, however, bad execution and no backup idea lead to Philly being de-pants' in front of their home fans.

3 minutes into the Miami-Philly game and “best XI” Elliott is slow as shit on a simple long ball and Blake forgets how to play goal and it’s 1-0 Miami.

It’s like this is scripted or something. Why can’t Philly make ass mistakes like that against NYCFC.

What will be funny is if Philly loses this and for all its efforts in the Leagues Cup it comes close but not enough for another trophy.
COVID. Bale. Messi.

What the hell happened to Blake last night?

It was hilarious after TT talked up how Blake is a possible league MVP that Blake literally makes two big mistakes in the first 20 minutes to hand the game to Miami.

Somebody on Reddit said “if those shots are coming from DCU Blake stops them with his back turned” lol

Even better is Philly now still has to play another game (3rd place) and if they lose that they get nothing, not even a CCL place, even after playing all these games over the past month.

Philly fans are now whining about fixture congestion and injuries (they have a few now like Carranza and Bedoya) - last year they played something like 37 games (and had almost no injuries) and NYCFC played over 50. Suck it up buttercups.

Monterrey has already qualified for CCC so they have nothing to play for today plus a busy schedule incoming and many expect them to field a heavily rotated squad tonight with multiple triple-digit players. If so, the Union will either be gifted a CCC spot or embarrass themselves further.

PS: Third place games are stupid.

I fully expect Monterrey to not give a crap about this game after spending a month playing games on the road AND there literally is no incentive for them in this game.

…and there it is, four starters with triple digit numbers.

Edit: And Philly literally scores one minute into the game LOL

Um, the incentive is prevent Philly from getting a CCC spot now and providing another Liga MX team a spot in the 2024 tournament.

As GratefulDawg GratefulDawg noted on Reddit the average uniform number of their lineup is 85.
Not one starter from the semifinal game started tonight, not even a CB or keeper.
After that 29 second concession they’ve been pretty solid nonetheless.
