If we're not signing Callens because he wants to be a DP, and we (rightfully) don't want to have 2 DP centerbacks, then the Martins signing last offseason becomes a pretty big mistake by the front office.

That said does he get DP money elsewhere? I mean he totally deserves it, I’m gonna be pretty pissed if he ends up in TAM salary elsewhere.

If they penny pinch and he goes to another MLS club for say $200 or $300k more…that’s just dumb.

That’s possible, because other teams may have the space for a defender DP or can buy someone else down. Thiago martins deal is what seems to have caused the cap issue.

Maybe, but maybe not. We're obviously going to have to make some signings, and maybe those players will be good. A slow start seems likely, but hopefully we can find our form by summer. Let's see what the transfer window looks like first.

And if Callens go to another MLS team and we have Thiago Martins still as a DP, I don't see us winning MLS Cup until there's another roster overhaul.

Season starts in a month and a half. I bet signings will start being announced this week or next.

At this point, any and every rumor without a direct link to a specific team will automatically be talked about by City fans. And rightfully so. As I said earlier, I agree with a majority of the outgoings we've had thus far as the players were either aging out or were depth pieces. But it'd be nice to have at least two high-profile signings before the season starts: one in the attack and one in the midfield.

I'm still not sold on Callens leaving. He obviously loves it here and considering how the South American football press works, I feel we'd know more about inquiries regarding his services at this point if he was negotiating with anyone or even feeling out offers. Plus at his age, I think a big move to Europe is off the cards.
