Carrizo and McFarlane will not contribute to our senior team. Like Scally and Gio before them.

Owosu is 21 and still hasn’t broke through.

I think Nico is another Jasson but it’s something.
It’s unfortunate we couldn’t sign Gio before he signed overseas but we got a decent payday from Scally. Yeah, he didn’t give us a lot of minutes but he put money in the coffee to sign others.

I feel we may be starting to be too “teen-centric” in talent evaluations. Every player doesn’t need to be World class, they just need to be good. Owusu would have already been playing for many teams. In fact, I think our homegrowns are more finished products than ones from a high press, direct style team like Philly and NJ. That’s why Chris Gloster signs overseas as a young kid from the Red Bulls but has to work to get time with us. Possession based sides are a more difficult and time consuming process to build. Doesn’t mean we’re not producing talent, it’s just we need a higher product to begin with for them to see the field.

I’m not saying CFG can’t do better. But I think we sometimes we are too quick as fans to give up on a kid under 23.

Trading off one retiring Argentinian Playmaker for a youthful Argentina potential playmaker seems like sound business to me
But not as youthful as Carrizo? Is that where you're going with this?

ETA: I guess if a guy is Argentinian and named Maxi, they get to play the 10 for us. That's the rule.

the official announcement is out about Callens leaving. Can’t blame him - he will get his $$ and move to play in La Liga. At least we didn’t lose him to Cincinnati or Atlanta or some other MLS team - that would have been infuriating.
He had every reason to want to make his money. No complaints. He's been our rock, and in a perfect world we would have been able to come up to his ask and keep him.

To be honest, I actually thought the team would find a way to finagle it and get close enough for him to want to stay.

Any way around it, he's a bona fide NYCFC hero. Knock 'em dead in La Liga, kid. Say hi to Taty for us.

SJ is gone then. The question is, why leave a back up spot for another backup spot? unless its going to be open tryouts for the number 1 spot.

I kind of think Freese would likely be the starter. I don't really rate Barraza much. Maybe it'll be a competition, but I think it would be Freese's job to lose.

Sucks that Johnson is gone, though.

At this point I’d rather have Sean leave, even if it is within MLS. If it is a reload, then reload. Teams fail more often with half-measures than full-measures.

Also, it would fit to have Sean, Maxi, and Callens leave in the same window (Taty too, if you extend). In to form a team, out having become one.

On to the next core.

If Freese, or Barrazza really, is starting next year 2 things. 1, I imagine it's like an nfl quarterback if you have 2 number 1 goalkeepers you have none, someone needs to be the guy. 2nd, the entire goalkeeping position is likely costing less than it would have to keep Johnson.

Old man Chanot is still here.
