2024 Roster and Transfer Discussion Thread

We have access to perhaps the best scouting network in the world. Plus, there is a Bundesliga team right there with us in the bidding.

This is a big outlay at a position of need. Just what we should be excied about.
If they are considering dropping 8 million on a player, they must know something we don't... Because that's mls sell to Europe prices.

This is the same scouting network that paid over $8M for Mitrija and he was far more proven than this guy.

Signing an unproven 18-year-old who will need time to develop and may or may not work out is not what we need on this team right now. Last season we struggled to score goals, we need stability and experience in the attack. A signing like this is 100% about what's best for CFG not what's best for our current NYCFC roster, we are just the roster they want to dump their prospect on for a while.

If Redbull was making signings like this over and over again after missing the playoffs we would all be laughing at them for being a farm team.

Perea's last contract with Philly was through 2025 with a team option for 2026. So he'll be here for a while.

Really starting to cook with rumors now. Our goaltending and defense were both very good last year - if we improve our scoring output by 10 goals, it really should bring us back towards the top of the league.

Totally agree.

Talent wise MLS may not be a top tier league, but it sure as hell isn't going to get scorched by a couple of kids who aren't old enough to buy a beer at Yankee Stadium.

Dealing with Inter is going to be a load, and most of the rest of the East didn't get any easier. But I like our approach. Give us a bunch of hungry young guys, let Cushing work their tails off and get them all riled up, then turn them loose. At the very least, we'll be entertaining.

But there's every chance we'll be really, really good if Mijatović and Wolf both come on board and meet expectations. A few more shots on target, a few more goals, and look out.

Exactly. Our defense allowed 2nd fewest goals in the East last year. Our offense scored 2nd fewest. If we go from 35 goals to 45 goals with the same defense, we're a no-doubt playoff team. We are not that far away from being where we want to be.

I think the FO is building to be playoff competitive this year and next and seriously challenge for hardware in 3-6 years.
I think the rebuilding they did after 2015 was meant to come together in 2018 and it did with a plan to then run the same core out for 4-5 years. That was partly undone when Vieira quit, but they still signed Johnson, Callens and Ring to extensions at the end of the 2018 season. Meanwhile Domé insisted on retooling mid-2018 and nearly got fired early 2019 as the team had trouble adjusting, then he quit, then Covid, and it was a combination of luck and the plan still holding together when they won in 2021.
Set aside all the distractions and I think this is how they plan. Don't try to go from crap to top of the league in one year.* Finishing 3-5 is probably the goal for 2024.

* The 2016 team was somewhat lucky and overachieved by finishing second. Then they got buzzed in the playoffs by a team that was better but finished behind them.

I am just happy that we are attempting to fill the roster as training starts and before the season. Last year we were doomed from the outset with a club that was missing parts and had no cohesion or chemistry to start the season. I also heard that some of the players had trouble becoming fully season ready having to play the preseason with more than usual academy kids and trialists participating in camp just to add bodies. Even if some of new additions need some seasoning, at least they are being given the time to do so unlike someone like Bakrar who had no chance and often looked lost and confused.
