2025 Roster and Transfer Discussion Thread

Whatever happened with the Devlin rumors??
Most rumors just fade away. Nobody makes an announcement that the rumor is dead because nobody announced anything official that needs to be updated or denied. That doesn't mean the rumors of discussions were definitely false. Nor does a few weeks of silence mean the discussions died. We basically know nothing with certainty and are unlikely ever to know unless and until a deal is imminent.

This is a half season loan with no option to buy. So it doesn't free up a roster spot for us. How exactly does it help us for this season?
Seriously this is arguably worse than just keeping him here. Notwithstanding some attitude/youth issues, he seemed to get along well with the team so I don't see how this is addition by subtraction. I guess I'm not upset if Jansen has a very low tolerance for even a little whining, but I just keep wondering what Lee does well? He overpays for potential, gets almost nobody who makes immediate contributions, and can't clear dead roster weight.

Ahh, there it is from Bogert. NYCFC's roster takes the hit because CFG wants to keep Jovan's potential value in house.

then have man city "buy" him from us and loan him out.

this is bad move roster wise. he can ball out and get loaned to girona or something but thats ultra high risk. still pointless because we have one less roseter spot we can use.

And spend money for the benefit of a satellite club?! pfffft.

side note: i'm a little sad mgarbowski's thinking emoji reaction only lasted about 2 weeks. was definitely hoping for a 6 month run. hah

Guys don't worry this is all part of David Lee's plan. Clearly Jovan is just going to get some reps in Europe and then come back ready to join Lee's other young prodigies who should be star-level players by mid-season completing the master development 5-year rebuild plan that sets us up for decades of success in MLS. I know right now it looks like CFG is just using our roster as a storage location for players like Jovan but trust me CFG care far too much about winning to even think of doing something like that. In a few years, David Lee is going to be seen as the Billy Bean of MLS and we are all going to look crazy for questioning him.

Reading the article they put out about this was maybe the most negative leaning article I have seen, both parties taking last season as a negative for the player. I expected that from Jovan, but for Lee to indicate that the season was basically a failure for this **club record** signing is so strange to me.

Why would NYCFC roster take a hit bc of this? I thought as long as the loan pays full salary comp then it is exempt from the roster rules for the duration of the loan?
  1. The loan is only until midseason and Lee has never had the stomach to play chicken by replacing a loaned player slot which would force him to scramble when the loan ends.
  2. The news release does not say that OHL is paying his entire half-season salary.
  3. Jovan occupies a U22 slot and I honestly don't know how a half season loan affects that, but even if it does open a U22 slot during the loan, circle back to #1 above.

Tell me again how any of this bullshit benefitted us. Lee is next on the chopping block and the fan base gotta start being more vocal about it.

We've all been saying Jovan will be monster once his frame fills out so it makes sense to send him somewhere with a pommes frites heavy diet. #PartOfThePlan

I bet either of my FM proficient kids could have used the record-setting funds we spent on Jovan to identify a feasible signing that would have significantly improved our club (of course with the chance that said player could be from Brest or Middelfart).
