Big Apple Soccer Article on Players Meeting

I read the Pirlo thing from that article and now just re-read it and it's not mentioned there, you are right.

Adding fuel to the fire.

so we are going to start believing rumors now? from bigapplesoccer...who we have rarely even linked to for anything all season.....all of a sudden have a scoop? ( i know they cover them like they cover all other teams as well but it seems its all just news and thats it).

now with its own thread it will pick up steam and then will be asked and tweeted about for the rest of the week and then asking players and coach and will be something to bother the team with.

this would of made sense under Kreis....and we know he lost the locker room long before the end of the season....how come no team meeting there.

this should of happened after the 7-0 or 4-1 thrashing not after this, when we are still alive.
Like I said, rumors may not be 100% true but all rumors are based on smoke. Something took place. This isn't pure fiction - very few outlets would ever print pure fiction while putting their credibility up for debate, and BAS isn't in the realm of British tabloids.

BAS or Empire of soccer for you in terms of credibility?

Yeah, BAS and EoS are different in my eyes. Michael Lewis cut his teeth as a journalist/columnist at actual newspapers long before he started BAS.

The other thing mentioned in that article is a "rumor" (take that as it is) that Pirlo wasn't injured, he saw the lineup and revolted, which was why he was out of the 18 and "injured" last minute in training.

Can't blame him, if I was benched for Mikey Lopez I'd feel the same.
Honestly, this was my first thought when we saw the lineup. Not the revolt, but the Pirlo "injury" was some sort of excuse to cover for our negative tactics. Sort of like what Jose does. He's the worst (best?) about building in ready made excuses.

So a different writer saying they're both false is believable without any sort of evidence? If he said he was with Villa when the meeting supposedly took place, then he's in the know, or he has a picture of Pirlo limping (or something else concrete), but a two-word rebuttal is vapid at best.

If any of the rumors were/is true, the team is most definitely in full-on spin-mode now with players walking the walk and talking the talk.

Now if Michael Lewis walked back the article, then I'd believe it......

That's not how journalism works. The writer might be exaggerating, or he might be guessing based off limited information, but there's something there. There is at least a part of this that is true. Reporters don't just make stuff up.

You have a much higher opinion of journalistic ethics and integrity than I do, especially when it comes to sports journalism.

I take solace in the fact that the Kitman said the attitude of the team was top notch. That guys doesn't have an agenda.
His post was:

I will say this. This team. These guys, have A LOT of fight left in them. #family"

That could be interpreted a lot of ways, including seeing the "fight" in guys being pissed and blowing up afterwards in heated "discussions." I'm not saying that's what happened, but that scenario would definitely show a lot of fight because they were amped up to play the way they've played all year. And if the majority took that stance, then there'd be solidarity - i.e. Family.

Twitter sucks for many reasons, but especially when not all facts are known.

Yeah, I have so much time on my hands that I type stuff out twice verbatim......

I hit Post Reply twice before it actually posted because the server seemed to be spinning endlessly and was stuck.

edit- just deleted the second post, but my point is no less meaningful :tearsofjoy::tearsofjoy::tearsofjoy:

Rumors like these don't get started without smoke....
Reporters don't just make stuff up.
I hate to disparage forum people. So take this as a blast at your comments not at you. But these could be the two most naive comments I've ever read on this forum.

ETA: From two forum members I don't think I have ever thought of as naive in the past.

Anyone following any part of what passes for reporting over the last 10 years knows that speculations are regularly reported as truth. No evidence required.

I take no offense in your comment, but your comment is honestly 10x more naive. There was definitely smoke. To deny that is as you call it naive.

I would hope that they had some type of meeting. I'm sure it wasn't a revolt, but they weren't singing kumbaya either. They were probably pissed cause TFC was beatable and they were shackled. I'm sure Villa was pissed that he came out. I'm sure Frank was pissed he wasn't starting, especially with Pirlo out. Maybe Pirlo wanted to play and PV said no. Maybe they wanted Saunders for some crazy reason. Who knows...but there's enough crap to be pissed about, so I'm sure they had to have some type of player meeting. It would be expected IMO.

i do think there was disappointment and a talk in the locker room and tempers flared a bit, but no way that it was to the extent that the locker room was divided. or all call mutiny on PV as it made it seem.

as for footylovin's idea i do see the point, i dislike all sports media in this day an age ( there are still a few good ones here and there but rare to me at least or they really dont have exposure). since many have sports agenda. i mean this coming from someone who has read spanish league news as well. where literally one sports news paper is pro real madrid and other pro barcelona so they just speculate or come up with rumors about each other all the time im sure some of them are unfounded completely.

so im always iffy when I read sports "rumors"

That game caused so much smoke, you'd think they'd have to have a meeting, regardless of rumors or reporters.
