They instituted double jeopardy. So a DOGSO foul in the box is a penalty + yellow rather than penalty + red.

I believe you can still get a red plus a penalty for violent conduct on a DOG SO in the box. I think hey just removed the automatic red for “professional/normal course of play" fouls. This is something I don't think many refs even realize or implement.

Double jeopardy applies if the defender is making a play on the ball. If the defender is just playing the man, then you can still get Red + Penalty.

Players will still be sent off for holding, pulling or pushing, not playing the ball or having no possibility to play the ball, serious foul play, violent conduct or deliberate handball.

I didn't take out the danger I took out the actual hit. The point is there was close to no danger outside the one time we scored. We won last night because we put up another shutout -- 4 in 8 games. But outside the PK we had less than 1 xG at home last night. It was still more than Chicago, but the result was pretty much a coin flip. We were due to win one of those. The draws against DC and Montreal had bigger xGDs in our favor that did not go our way. But they were all coin flips.
ETA: We have 3 home clean sheets and only one win, because we're not creating enough good chances, and last night's was both by eye and stats not very different from the 2 draws, except we finally created one very high percentage shot and converted it.

I agree that defense won this one for us, but worth remembering that Maxi hit the post again - a shot that isn't in the game stats for some reason.

Three people were escorted out of the supporter section right at the end of the game by police. One walked out on his own, One was surrounded by police but was walking on his own, the last had his arms restrained behind his back by an officer. The murmurings were they were the racists, but then another guy said they were antifa

FWIW for the first time in 5 seasons in 129 I was asked to sit down. At 87’. With nobody behind me (a guy three rows back gave me a WTF nod). Possible that Sri Lanka and April have security on edge.

I hope I'm not furthering on any political discussion, but I noticed a much, much heavier security presence in the Supporters Section last night. I also haven't been asked to show my ticket for my section in years and they asked for that every time I was in/out.

Was it already whistled offsides though? Perhaps it was and he heard it, but all the NYCFC players didn't appear to think so.

If the play wasn't whistled dead for offsides and he bats it in like that, that has to be a yellow.

Ebenezer Ofori was absolutely outstanding tonight. Never thought I'd be singing his praises after last year but he's been crucial the last two games.

Part of the reason for no long range shots was probably the absence of Mitrita and Isi, who love to bomb from deep. I also note that one of our 4 shots was the PK, so we had only 3 shots from open play, and only one of those on target. Thank goodness Taty made that run. We're still not particularly active or successful in the final third. I took out the assist, but this shows every other successful pass and cross on the night. We might have been less dangerous than Chicago in the last 30-40 yards but for that assist (and Chicago was not very dangerous).

ETA: One of our "open play" shots was from a set piece, so..

I think there is something wrong about the data (or at least it's missing one data point) on MLS' website. They don't show the other shot that Maxi took which went off the crossbar (I couldn't tell if Ousted pushed it onto the bar or not).

ETA: On that play, what a layoff by Taty. I didn't know that he had it in him to make a pass in that particular situation.

One last note from me on the game, Ring finally picked up his first yellow card of the season, and he seemed quite intent on picking up his second. I thought for sure he was going to be tossed with a second yellow at some point last night.
