Christian Pulisic Is Better Than Jack Harrison, But Not By Much

Play the cards you have, accept the burdens of the context in which you came from, enjoy the privileges, and don't worry about either one of them.

That is a very fancy way of saying, "Only my context matters."

I guess they are going for the parents feeding breakfast to their small children demographic.

And the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo will be the same stuff. What are the times going to be for the Russia and Qatar World Cup?

The world has to know that the US TV market is the most important so games have to be at favorable times here. Adverisers aren't paying top dollar for the finals of the Men's 100M at 6:30AM.

Just my occasional reminder to the forum that the US is not actually the center of the world. There are more populous countries and also countries with comparable economies. Note also the 2016 Olympics had the lowest viewership in a while (although perhaps oddly I wasn't able to find non-US TV viewership info). So alas, we don't rule the world.

Carry on.

But doesn't the US spend the most for the TV rights? So we're the most important? Right? RIGHT?

U-S-A! U-S-A!

But actually, this sort of stuff fascinates me. I majored in radio perhaps about 100 years ago in college and I've always been interested in ratings, viewership, that sort of thing. A quick Google this morning wasn't much revealing at all, and in fact I then went to Wolfram Alpha and did no better. Might have to, gasp, actually go to the library and do real research to see if I can find EU viewer numbers, for example. Surely there's comparative stats out there. Might have to search The Times. Don't recall seeing any articles from them listed in my googling.

The USA does pay the most for the TV rights per country, but it is boosted by the spanish language TV rights.

"Fox agreed to pay more than $400 million, while Telemundo, owned by Comcast/NBC, will pay about $600 million to broadcast those two men’s World Cups, several television executives familiar with the deal said" (2018 &2022)

So in effect, the English language rights are worth $200 million per world cup.

Contrast this with about the $1.2 Billion NBC pay for each Olympic games.

FIFA know that to get the really big bucks, they need the USA to become a bigger soccer country. Gianni Infantino knows this more than anyone.

Unlike in 1994, I'd imagine by the 2026 world cup, which will be hosted in North America, the game times will determined to suit US television.

Interesting article about the 2026 World cup also.

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/arti...et-for-500-million-windfall-on-2026-world-cup

Telemundo agreed to pay at least $350 million with FIFA getting a $115 million bonus if the U.S. ended up hosting; Fox’s fee was $300 million, with a $180 million bonus.

The baffling decision to give Qatar the world cup has cost FIFA a lot of money.
Agency failure.
$10 million in bribes to individuals > $295 million in honest money that goes to the entity.

I loved the stat that the USA/Belgium World Cup match was watched by twice as many Americans as there are Belgians.

As I just finished watching the U20 World Cup final that started at 6am on a Sunday I'm going to go out on a limb here and say the World Cup matches will *always* be scheduled for the local time of the host nation.

Also, has the North American bid officially won? I thought the decision won't be made for another two or three years.

So anyway, let's talk in 2030 so we can settle up our bet on kickoff times. I'll put it on my calendar, and perhaps we can meet at my seats at NYCFC Stadium.

Decision is later this year. The US/Canada/Mexico bid gave FIFA an ultimatum of award or they walk, and FIFA wants to give other countries 3months(?) to compete, but it doesn't look like anybody else can submit in time or have the inclination to submit. Really just a formality.
