Copa America - Chile 2015

Next year Copa is in the United States and it's going to be a big tourney with several CONCACAF teams in it too...but now with the FIFA issues its being debated during this Copa whether it will still happen.

Copa America is run by Conmebol. The U.S. is not a member and can't become one because we're not in South America. We're in Concacaf, for North and Central America.
That doesn't stop Mexico from participating in the tournament. How can they participate if they're also a member of Concacaf?

He was mistaken. 2 nations can be invited outside of South America.

I didn't see that post before I sent mine.

Is this a North, Central, and South American tournament? I've never understood this tournament's inclusion of Concacaf teams if it's run by Conembol.

It's actually silly. But now that the U.S. soccer market is growing there's been talks about changing things up.

Conembol is South
concacaf is North, Central, Caribbean.

What kind of changes? Making it an entire Americas tourney or?

Next year is the first time Copa is being hosted outside of S.A. It's for the 100 year anniversary...I've read that it's also a test to see the response and if it is wildly successful, it may be a vision of the future. Which would be very cool. I bet it is very popular here and if the U.S. has a good showing...we will see it again. But with the recent FIFA indictments there's some problems now. Check it out, just search Copa 2016 and you'll see a lot of the debate and what it's all about.

Oh, that's pretty cool. I'll give it a look online.

Yep Mexico rather win gold cup to qualify to confederate cup. Now if they win copa America that is the biggest bragging rights in the region. Gold Cup doesn't compare. The 2016 is a special edition tournament to celebrate the 100 years of the conmebol and tournament I think. It's being hosted with all conmebol members and certain concacaf. If everything runs smoothly and turns out to be great....which im sure it will be as the countries participating have immigrant populations that represent them well at the stadium we can be seeing more collaboration between both confederation and maybe our grand kids or great grand kids will see a a whole Americas Tournament with the USMNT winning back to back titles

Who the hell is the guy doing the color commentary? This guy seriously needs a cup of shut the fuck up.

Decaf bro, decaf!

It's Ray Hudson lol. He's actually tame...search "Ray Hudson Messi" in YouTube if you want to hear him in his full glory.

Will anybody be following Copa America?

La Roja vs. La Tricolor ( Chile vs. Ecuador)

I predict

Chile 1 - Ecuador 2 (Tough game....Chile will dominate but maybe Ecuador gets lucky)

Any more predictions?

OOOOH Victor , I watched the game , rooting for Ecuador , sadly your prediction was not the outcome you and I wished with my heart too.

Well to the next game....

By the way who is your favorite to win the Copa?

As always the favorites are Argentina and Brazil.

In my heart I want Ecuador to win but it's not going to happen.
I am rooting for Uruguay, I love seeing Suarez scoring those goals. I want them to win, but if Argentina or Brazil win, I am ok with that.

I'm going to go with Argentina being favorites to win it. If not Chile who has a golden generation of players.

I think we won't be seeing Suarez because of the ban he has to fulfill (wc issue)

Yep. Learned me something tonight.
And I'm surprised Mexico is playing, going straight from the Copa to the Gold Cup.
Mexico is playing their B-team in the Copa America because they value the Gold Cup more. I guess they enjoy being the dominant force a lot more than being the punching bag.

hahah yea true. But Mexico has had good run in Copa America. They usually pass the group stage, and end up in semifinals. Overall Mexico is ranked 9th in participation.

Mexico has been runner up twice (1993, 2001) - - Surprisingly Honduras was 3rd

Mexico has been in third Place three times (1997, 1999, 2007)

Chile, Ecuador and Venezuela are the only teams from CONMEBOL yet to win the Copa America, which is the oldest international tournament.

Chile comes closest being runner ups 4 times. Ecuador being in 4th place 2 times, and Venezuela being 4th 1 one time. By this measure Mexico has been doing good.
