I would argue that we are overpaying for performance with Saunders today. Around the world, Goalkeepers are the cheapest on-field talent. For $110,000 a year, I don't think we are necessarily getting great value.

My two cents is that there is a keeper out there for a similar wage cost that provides better value.

I think we all get that you don't like the guy and are not open to liking him - that's totally up to you but it is blinding you to what he brings to the team and what we have transformed into since he and Jack became available for selection.

I think that the map below shows that Frank had touches near Jack - I would rather point out that his presence near Jack's side of the field or Frank passing back to Hernandez while on Jack's side was able to keep the defense honest enough to spring Jack numerous times during the match. I recall Jack only being doubled maybe once or twice on the wing - as opposed to each touch on the wing the last few weeks.

I think leilanikali420 's point was that even if not directly involved in passes, Lampard's proximity to Harrison forced a defender to pay heed thus not allowing said defender to drop and double-team Harrison - which is exactly what was happening the past few games with Hernandez not overlapping to draw a defender. Sometimes a passive involvement has an active effect on the play simply by occupying space as a hypothetical outlet.

I was discussing exactly that with Midas this weekend. As I said to him, there is no actual evidence at this point that Saunders will not be back next year, only wishful thinking by most that he will be replaced.

I 100% also think that Saunders will be back next year. Do they let someone compete with him is another question.

I don't think Mix would score at the same clip, even in the free role. But you have to agree that Mix was 1 - asked/expected to do significantly more & 2 - hasn't been given a chance since we've settled into our current midfield tactics/roles, don't you?

Not necessarily. There are 3 spots to be had. Iraola, Pirlo and Frank have all performed better. Lopez has performed better as the late game closer and Bravo has performed better as the bruiser/muscle. Mix sees himself as a #6 in a perfect world. Iraola and Pirlo have done their jobs better. It's that simple for me.

I don't think Mix believes he's a #6. He's either a #8 or a #10.... Both centrally located, seeing a lot of the ball, and involved in the attack.
