General MLS Discussion

I’m in the same boat. I used to enjoy looking up 538’s rankings as well. Now that’s gone. ETR is boring and has been for a while, and truly I’ve lost interest in Blue City Radio. The only thing soccer I listen to is Blue Balls Pod because I like Trey and Jake. I may have to finally pick a European team.
I think I’ve done all the NYCFC podcast’s by now. It’s an odd universe but yeah I tend to favor blue balls. Funny how the most inebriated show is the smartest.

Same here, Blue Balls is the only one I find consistently entertaining. Blue City Radio I can’t listen to at all, the host has a constant verbal tic that, once you hear it, it’s so distracting that you hear nothing else.

I wonder what’s taking so long on the Messi deal. Everyday he’s slathered all over the website without an official contract makes the league look more like a joke. I truly couldn’t tell the USMNT won a major trophy last night if not for the forum.
I read earlier his PSG contract goes until June 30th so they can’t announce until after that

Oppo Research: 5 things you should know about Toronto FC - HRB

Would anyone take Bob to replace Nick? I doubt it would happen, but he certainly comes with better credentials. Although Toronto experiment was an unmitigated failure

No thanks. I don’t think Bob would play the CFG way. And while that hasn’t been working for us this season, I don’t think CFG would like that change

I did like where Kljestan looked at Inter Miami and did math as to why they wouldn’t make the playoffs - five games left before the break, he has them winning one and then would need to go 8 wins, 1 draw in 10 games with Messi to get to 42 pts (historic ninth place point amount).

Would be hilarious for Messi to come and that team to miss the playoffs.

The combo of NYC not replacing its best player in 2 windows, plus an unfinished roster plus half of MLS players gone for a month while forcing double game weeks plus then the league shutting down for a month in the middle of the season = me being more bored with Major League Soccer than I’ve ever been since NYCFC began.
I can’t stop following NYCFC but the rest of the league is of zero interest to me. I haven’t looked at a Doyle column or power rankings in weeks. Those Apple wrap up shows hold no appeal though that’s also a function of boring hosts.
I’m not about to start caring about baseball again so I’m at a bit of a loss.
MLS for me has been relegated to MLB and NBA tier as far a my enthusiasm goes this season . That means I check in here still and I follow the score on my phone when they’re playing and that’s about it . They go out and make a few decent signings next month that show ownership still cares and maybe they will turn around in the second half of the season .

I’ve never been a huge fan of any apparel the Union, but I think this Union 2 jersey is pretty cool.

33 years old coming off a 10-goal and 8 assist premier league season sounds like a nice pickup. He's toward the tail of his career but very much in the MLS sweet spot of old enough to come but with a few years in the tank. I wish we would use at least one of our DP spots on proven players in that 28-33-year-old range that we found so much success with Villa and Maxi.

both villa and maxi were over 30 when they arrived. i think villa was 33? maxi was 32?

if we can find a proven player willing to come at 28, that's essentially the mid/tail end of his peak years, that'd be amazing. even if they aren't DP level.. proven players in their peak are also welcome. like with chanot and callens, for example. we need more veterans

Obviously we have a U22 spot that people here and around the league are ear marking for our striker. But does anyone know how much GAM and TAM we have stored up? Obviously it’s pretty secretive and no real number is published anywhere. But can anyone with any level of certainty say whether we have a lot or alittle of either of them for signing a non-U22 player

Considering our roster -- how many players left and how few additions there have been -- I would think we have a substantial amount of space under the salary cap.
