General MLS Discussion

Honestly couldn't care less, especially given we've never had a coach for our team (sans kreis, but i don't think anyone really cares...) become a coach at another MLS club even though it's really common.

Speaking of which, I've heard this Wilfred Nancy guy is pretty good...

It would be easier to stomach if we were in a better situation with our current coach. I think each of the coaches leading up to our cup win excelled at different things and each laid the groundwork for the next manager. Their strengths were:

1. Viera - Player development, drilling into the players how to play the quick passing system with a high level of comfort
2. Dome - Overall tactical system refinement
3. Delia - Player management and finding the sweet spot between a rigid system approach and giving the players some freedom

Vieira going to ATL is particularly frustrating because it feels like we are back at step 1 right now and could use his ability to develop young players. His stature in soccer also brings advantages to player recruitment and day-to-day player management. So many players during the PV era mentioned choosing to come after talking to PV on the phone. I'd also bet some of the young expensive transfers would be a lot less likely to butt heads with PV if he pushed them hard than they are with Cushing just based on who PV is.

the one thing i didnt like of PV is that i felt many times he could not motivate the team, and they came out flat and it led to bad losses. the 7-0/4-0 vs RB the 3-0 vs portland and that whole debacle vs columbus in first leg of playoff leg 4-1 and the second leg of toronto series 5-0.

will he improve atlanta ? yes. would it make them contenders? no.

would i take him over cushing? yes. but i know the improvement wont be massive i think. as this time around there is no villa or anyone close to that to get to solve games.

My first reaction to your post is, that was years ago, he may have improved as a manager. But after I read his wiki managerial history, it seems that he just kinda bounced around for poor performing team to poor performing team. So yeah I agree I’d take him over Cushing but I don’t think I want him back for the long term

Patrick Viera coached our team
V-I-E-I Ra!
And he left us in the middle of a season
V-I-E-I Ra!
And he was bad against Red Bulls and he never won in playoffs, and he never won USOC but he was very good apart from that

That's how you spell Vieira.

Austin never were really good to begin with. That 2022 season was a pretty far overperformance.

They finished 4th in the supporters shield standings, but 20th in xGD.

Similar thing with St Louis last year to this year. They finished 4th in the shield standings and 18th in xGD.

A team owned by Anthony Precourt isn't investing in his team, community or advertising for the club? I for one am SHOCKED!! I thought it was all the fault of Columbus fans!

team performance aside, i was referring more to their crowd size at home. they used to have a rockin stadium atmosphere. seemed to always be packed tight.. this week's game, the 20k stadium looked maybe 75% full. of course, their season tickets are sold out so reported attendance is always sold out.

are the fans not interested in a poor performing team or has the general hype just died out already...? (more rhetorical than anything). anyway, just wondering if it was just an anomaly or if this was something others noticed.

McConaughey is preoccupied with the Longhorns right now, but he's just one guy. They have a serious shot at the national championship this year.

I wonder how much overlap there is among those fanbases. I'm initially tempted to think not much, and then I remember that in the last 10 years my 2 favorite sports (which I previously ignored) are soccer and college football. So who knows?

Messi sold separately, support your local club…or actually get a certified supporters group instead of pink jersey front runners.
That's misleading and more than a little unfair.
They do have multiple independent Supporter Groups. They don't have any Independent Supporter Groups in that none of them are yet admitted to the Independent Supporter Council that awards the shield. Four Miami groups have admission pending. By not capitalizing the "I" a petty Columbus fan who is bitter they just lost the Shield makes it look like Miami has no supporter groups independent of the club, which is BS.

Finally, there's no reason to piss on Miami fans in Miami. They have stars, they're winning, and fans are having fun. That's how it works. Piss on the Miami/Messi fans in the rest of the country who show up at Miami away games and root for the visitors. That's what our tifo did.

Also Fuck Ohio.

Philly lose 2-3 to Columbus.
Charlotte beats Montreal 2-0 and jump into the 5th spot.
Orlando beat Cincinnati 3-1.
Red Bulls lose to Atlanta 1-2.

Nashville eliminated from the playoffs with DC win at New England, much less for them to play for tomorrow
