General MLS Discussion

rooting for the caps to take down cruz azul but they're already down a goal 12 mins in on a mistake.

hope they come back and win it.

very weird that an international tournament has its final at a non-neutral location.

Cruz Azul is kind of my Liga MX team so I’m thrilled to see them take it to Vancouver and finally get a title. It’s been a great weekend for them, this after rival America got knocked out of the CWC by LAFC

privately funded? good to see

yea. now we just need the revs to pony up a SSS and the league is in pretty good shape stadium wise. ideally atlanta and seattle would do one too but that seems unlikely. portland switching to grass would also be nice, but also not happening.

Chicago building a SSS of their own to open in 2028. seems like a great location too

I understand it is comparing apples to oranges. As Yankees and Mets have to place down and take up new sod for each game, but it is funny the Yankees allegedly charge $1M* for rent per game. Lets just say they have to place approx 10,000 square feet of sod at $30K per game, so labor and rest of cost for the stadium is $980K. *( I believe that this the number one of the Marlins Execs said the Yankees were receiving).

Per the Sun Times. The Fire’s Soldier Field lease is due to expire this year. It requires Mansueto’s team to pay a minimum of $145,000 for operating expenses for games with 15,000 attendees or fewer. The sliding fee scale rises to $162,500 for up to 20,000 fans, and $258,000 for any crowd larger than 35,000.

**I am a Met fan so my bashing of the Yankees has to be taken with a grain of salt. But I am still salty about not having the stadium next to Yankee stadium. Queens will be a better atmosphere, but I think you lose some of the potential fans from north of the Tappan Zee Bridge.

They likely didn't have a choice. Chicago took a ton of money from the town of Bridgeview for their previous stadium and bailed on them before the agreement was even up. Taking public money again would have been a really bad look.

I remember that number being thrown about too as our cost to rent out Yankee stadium. I'm curious what it is for Citi field.

It is an astronomical price if true and even crazier when you consider the yankees are partial owners.
