General MLS Discussion

rooting for the caps to take down cruz azul but they're already down a goal 12 mins in on a mistake.

hope they come back and win it.

very weird that an international tournament has its final at a non-neutral location.

Cruz Azul is kind of my Liga MX team so I’m thrilled to see them take it to Vancouver and finally get a title. It’s been a great weekend for them, this after rival America got knocked out of the CWC by LAFC

Kinda crazy. Vancouver pulled an inter. Is it the altitude? Missing players? What's the excuse this time?

Vancouver didn’t prioritize this game by rotating in MLS so maybe that plus the Mexico City altitude = flame out

Chicago building a SSS of their own to open in 2028. seems like a great location too

I understand it is comparing apples to oranges. As Yankees and Mets have to place down and take up new sod for each game, but it is funny the Yankees allegedly charge $1M* for rent per game. Lets just say they have to place approx 10,000 square feet of sod at $30K per game, so labor and rest of cost for the stadium is $980K. *( I believe that this the number one of the Marlins Execs said the Yankees were receiving).

Per the Sun Times. The Fire’s Soldier Field lease is due to expire this year. It requires Mansueto’s team to pay a minimum of $145,000 for operating expenses for games with 15,000 attendees or fewer. The sliding fee scale rises to $162,500 for up to 20,000 fans, and $258,000 for any crowd larger than 35,000.

**I am a Met fan so my bashing of the Yankees has to be taken with a grain of salt. But I am still salty about not having the stadium next to Yankee stadium. Queens will be a better atmosphere, but I think you lose some of the potential fans from north of the Tappan Zee Bridge.

I remember that number being thrown about too as our cost to rent out Yankee stadium. I'm curious what it is for Citi field.

It is an astronomical price if true and even crazier when you consider the yankees are partial owners.

yea. now we just need the revs to pony up a SSS and the league is in pretty good shape stadium wise. ideally atlanta and seattle would do one too but that seems unlikely. portland switching to grass would also be nice, but also not happening.

atlanta has no incentive to move and honestly i get it. its in a good location ( from what i read) and you can open up the full stadium for big games plus no need to deal with heat or cold. concessions at good prices too. the turf is ass but there is no need for them to move.

Unless I just never noticed, they even seem to manage to avoid the confusing lines that can plague New England and Seattle. Apart from the terrible fast and bouncy surface, it's an ideal setup for them.

i dont recall either, but it could be due to their scheduling, where they give themselves enough time to configure it from Football to soccer.

This came up on LinkedIn. I thought it was pretty interesting — the league talking directly to business and emphasizing the marketing opportunity. So, it's not just us.

For the record, I don't find it at all amiss, as long as the sporting side isn't being neglected. But that's a subject for another thread.

Barraza being hung out to dry by his defense (defense?) tonight. 6-1 Chicago in the 65'.

ETA: 7-1 finale.

I just watched the highlights, and the defense was horrendous; they hung Barazza out to dry. Although the 6th goal was a classic Barazza punch into a terrible area.

Goal 1: tap-in after terrible defending, nothing Barazza could do
Goal 2: Break away, but the CB forced Bamba wide, Barazza got beat, maybe a bit too easily, given how tight the angle was on the shot
Goal 3: Terrible defending, Barlow 1:1 with Barazza, not much he could do
Goal 4: Easy tap-in on a square ball in the box due to terrible defending, nothing Barazza could do
Goal 5: Curler from the TMAC spot, Barazza saw it late, had no chance
Goal 6: Classic Barazza goal, ball shot hard directly at him, and he punched it right to the PK spot
Goal 7: DC got through 1:1 again, Barazza had no chance
