Great.... We're playing a team that thinks the sport is mixed martial arts and we have a ref that can't make the obvious calls. The game will either end 11v7 with RB gets 4 red cards or they're going to get away with hack&slash tackles leading to easy goals.... But my money is on Grajeda letting the rough play go.

As long as he calls it the same both ways, unlike last time.

Even with Lampard, Iraola and Pirlo in midfield, I'm worried the press will still steamroll us. It was just beyond effective last time, and really beat us down from the opening whistle. However, I think the fact that our midfield was rather inexperienced last time caused the press to be so effective. With Lampard, Pirlo, and Iraola, you have 3 largely more experienced players. Hopefully they can shake off the press and not immediately give it back.

On the other hand, I also think it's our formation that basically handed RB the ball in dangerous areas last game. With a high press team like RB, us playing with width in a 4-3-3 is dangerous. If the 3 mids can handle the press, get out of it, and quickly transition out to the wide players, then we might stand a chance, but our small field almost cancels out width. Those pressing RB players don't have very far to run to close that wide player down.

We all know we'll see a 4-3-3, but I think we need to be more compact. I'd even go for something like this (would play like a 5-3-2, or even a 4-4-2 to absorb the press in our third). I know, I'm crazy, and we'll see a spread out 4-3-3 with 4 players basically standing on the sidelines watching our midfield get crunched like Jon Snow before littlefinger showed up.

Edit: not sure why this is so big. I tried scaling it down but no dice.

i like that if you take off tmac and put harrison on the wing... now you only need a target-holdup foward... the role poku is perfect for...

RB are starting their A team tonight.

Hopefully a Red Bull player decides to pull a Dempsey and tear up the ref's notebook

EDIT: Philadelphia just tied it 1-1 i the 55'. I want this to go to extra time. Run those Red Bulls in to the ground.
EDIT 2: Pontius with a brace puts Philadelphia up 2-1. While 120' would be preferred, I'll just take a Red Bull loss.
EDIT 3: Philadelphia win 2-1. Marsch was ejected before the game ended and had a hissy hit throwing two balls near an official/Philadelphia bench. May be reviewed by US Soccer. Come on suspension!
EDIT 4: Perfect night for NYCFC as the Cosmos fall to New England 3-2.

They now play a song prior to the game submitted by Cityzens on the Cityzens page. I hope someone (or a lot of people) put down the Game of Thrones song from the finale. #TheCityRemembers #NewYorkCityRemembers

The intro music or something else?

This match is really Sunday at noon? What, did NYCFC think "let's tap into a new demographic, the brunch crowd!!!" Strange to see a match that early (afternoons are usually 1 or later).

Still, going to be a hot one. If RBNY still runs circles around NYCFC even in that heat and with the tired legs, something is wrong.

which is kinda how they came into the last derby, I'm very nervous about this one.
TBH, if the refs had called a fair game last time, RB would have finished with 10 men, possibly even 9, because of their MMA style of play, and they wouldn't have won. Pirlo only retaliated because nothing was being called.

RB plays entirely on emotion, and when things go badly, they unravel quickly - had the Ref punished them, they definitely would have unraveled into a dumpster fire performance.

We have to hope that Joe Blow Ref this week understands the rules and can recognize when RB is fouling our technical guys - Pirlo et al.
