which is kinda how they came into the last derby, I'm very nervous about this one.

There is no other way to be given history here.

The mental part of this game is going to be the most important thing. Our guys totally lost focus in the last one. They let the big moment carry them away. Can they keep their heads this time? Do they have the commitment to win? The belief that they can?

Time to break the spell/ jinx.
An early goal will settle us down,
An early goal for that lot could break us.

The result could go either way. If I was gambling on the result, I'd not be confident.

A few quotes ahead of the game.

There are no rented spaces ahead of this weekend’s Hudson River Derby. No joint press conferences. No rushed travel. Just a week of practice for a New York City FC side who could not be any happier to remain in Purchase.

“We come in with a different week than we had when we played the [New York Red Bulls] a few weeks ago,” head coach Patrick Vieira said. “Physically, mentally we will be prepared and it will be a completely different game.”

NYCFC entered the May 21 match having played in Portland and Toronto in the prior six days while the Red Bulls played at D.C. hosted the Chicago Fire in the previous eight. This time, City gets eight days between matches while the Red Bulls will finish a stretch of five matches in 14 days.

"Eggs Ben-e-dict" just doesn't have the same ring to it as "Chick-en Buck-et"
It doesn't, and while I'd be pretty wary of eggs Benedict or Florentine from those venders, it would be rather neat if the food stands had some sort of brunch fare like a breakfast burrito or scrambled w bacon & home fries - the NYSteak carts have the full-surface grill that could be used; same as the hotdog venders. It couldn't be any worse than a greasy spoon diner's food.

TBH, if the refs had called a fair game last time, RB would have finished with 10 men, possibly even 9, because of their MMA style of play, and they wouldn't have won. Pirlo only retaliated because nothing was being called.

RB plays entirely on emotion, and when things go badly, they unravel quickly - had the Ref punished them, they definitely would have unraveled into a dumpster fire performance.

We have to hope that Joe Blow Ref this week understands the rules and can recognize when RB is fouling our technical guys - Pirlo et al.
good points.

This match is really Sunday at noon? What, did NYCFC think "let's tap into a new demographic, the brunch crowd!!!" Strange to see a match that early (afternoons are usually 1 or later).
It's ESPN's doing this time. They're televising the game (all three RB games this year are on national TV), and they have Euros in mid to late afternoon and baseball in the evening.

Coming soon to a stadium near us...

The fact that he went out of his way to pick up the balls to slam them down is very, very childish. Its one thing if the ball from play rolled to his feet or something and you get caught up in the heat of the moment, but this seemed like he went out of his way and was quite an immature temper tantrum.

On the flip side, anyone know why he was so pissed and if he had a legitimate reason to be pissed?

Marsh is such a putz. He should get a multiple game ban for that since he committed essentially a ref-abuse violation (hurling the balls at the AR) which was after the initial sending off - a foul on top of a foul. And it's turning out like I earlier called it - last year was an outlier for their team when they won the Supporter's shield - that was the only good team/season Marsh has ever coached. And now the league has figured their style/tactics out and they have the 2nd most losses of any team at 8 (Seattle leads with 9 losses). Their team unravels the moment things go poorly. If not for very generous refs that don't call fouls on their MMA-style hacking, they'd finish every game shorthanded. And it all starts at the top with a classy guy like Marsh.

He said he needed to do something to fire up his team since the refs were calling all of the fouls for Philly..... except that the fouls were nearly even at 14-12..... so really he's just a childish putz....

“I had to try to induce change with the referee somehow because he was basically calling every foul for the Union,” a still-heated Marsch said in the post-game press conference. “Laughable.”

Asked about the late-game fireworks that involved his own assistant and former Chicago Fire teammate, Curtin couldn’t help but smile.

“Jesse and I are good friends from old times,” said the Philadelphia Union head coach. “But I like to beat him and he likes to beat me. We’re competitive. I think it’s the heat of the moment.

“Jesse was upset with the referees obviously, maybe lost his temper a bit. But I’ve seen that face before in training sessions. When you’re on the other side, it still does make me smile.”

Exhibit 1: Jesse Marsch. Last night he literally took his ball and went home.

NJ is one of the dirtiest teams in the league, with Orlando. Every game, the fouls should be against them.

I agree, this was way out of line, if he does get a disciplinary review and a suspension, does it apply to MLS? Or he is just suspended for his next Open Cup game?

Different competitions so it applies only to the Cup..... but, as the Dempsey ref-abuse from last year showed, something that big can carry over to MLS. So it depends on if he gets punitive punishment for the ball-throwing after his red card.

I'd like to see NYCFC attack Lloyd Sam's side of the field and throw numbers around him when he has to defend so he gets frustrated. He's fiery and very likely to again go into challenges hard - NYCFC should goad him into losing his cool via passing around him & highly technical play/dribbling, and hopefully the refs don't turn a blind eye to his antics. Him and Grella are the two that could easily loose their heads, and I'm sure Lampard is the one that wants to mess with Grella's.
