Some guy in my section at the last Toronto game was giving Jozy dog's abuse the whole time. This is a guy who impressively manages to get through about 8 beers a game and stacks his cups as he goes. Hoping he's in the same area next season as there are a lot of quiet folk in the stands and his banter is fun.

Either we sit in the same section, or someone else drinks and goes after Jozy as much as I do. I have to meet this man.

A year has gone by, a new season is around the corner and my unhealthy obsession with checking Ticketmaster is alive and well.

Almost every section is completely sold out and those that still have seats have very few for sale (except 207 which is still wide open). After a quick and quite unscientific count on my part (yes, I have far, far too much time on my hands) it looks like there's about 800 seats left in the lower tier.

I'm guessing (hoping?) seats in the 300's go on sale any day now.

I share your obsession. My guess is that 300 level seats go on sale next week. Though there are also upwards of 1000 seats held back for season ticket sales that will likely be released eventually.

I'm very curious what attendance is going to be like compared to last year. Obviously the opener is likely to be a lot lower. My guess is that attendance excepting the opener will be higher but by a very small amount, no more than 3%. But I wouldn't be shocked by a drop of as much as 5%, either.

A lot depends on the club's ticket giveaways - The club could sell 5% more tickets and still have lower attendance if they are less aggressive in giving seats away - I'm pretty sure they gave away 2-3000 or more for some games last year. The schedule tilted toward spring and fall is also not helpful. Though perhaps we can get a boost in the fall if our performance is better.

You're doing God's work, Gene

I love these posts because I am similarly obsessed with the ticket count, but don't even have to do the work!

It is going to be interesting to see how attendance pans out this season and quite honestly I feel things can go either way.

I would imagine the bad combo of losing that new car smell and a real crappy home schedule is going to account for losing some ticket sales.

Then again you have to wonder if the combo of an extra home games with NJ, and LA coming to town will offset any average loss in attendance?

Of course a winning season is a sure cure all for all our my angst.

Interested in these ticket threads as well. We also have to factor the number of season ticket renewals/additions. Hoping it's higher then last year.

Would that mean we are close to 33K seats sold for the opening game? I think standard game "capacity" (not opening upper levels) was announced last year as 33.4K, and they've since made more seats/sections available in the lower bowl for 2016..... So I'm curious what can be packed in for a normal game before the 300 level and above are opened (or is the 300 level part of the 33.4K number)?

I honestly don't know. It seems there's always a different capacity number mentioned whenever this topic comes up in any sort of interview.

EDIT
I sent a tweet to fan services asking what constitutes a sell out when only lower tier seats are offered. If they reply, I'll post it here

The 33.4k number is all the lower sections *including* the seats in the lower bowl that were not available for purchase last year.

I tend to think it is a mistake for the FO to open those seats as the sight lines are so bad that they may turn people off from returning. It is easier for them to add capacity there than at the terrace level though because it doesn't require as many extra staff.

I don't think the lower bowl holds much more than 30K, and that's with all the sections opened up.

There was a stretch of home games last year where we "sold out" the lower levels and basically topped out at 27,500 to 28,500. This was with some of the sections blocked off. We then hit 30,018 against Columbus with the sections behind home plate opened up. You should check out this thread, which I ran last season, that has a lot of good data on attendance.

Another thing to remember is that the club often holds back tickets until a week or two before the game for group sales, season ticket sales, visiting teams, other packages. So, what's shown as inventory on Ticketmaster usually isn't complete. One example is Section 208, which doesn't include any season tickets and isn't currently available.

That's exactly what happens and shame on me for not remembering that from last year. When I checked Ticketmaster last night they added a ton of tickets that weren't there earlier.

It looks like they opened up those sections behind the plate (120B, etc) and section 223 (the old visting SG section).

Well this is certainly odd. Clicked on the post on NYCFC.com to look at single game tickets and the Yankees banner show up.

Looks like the Club just opened up ticket sales in a few new sections.

208, 231 and 232A just came on line. Good seats in those sections at good prices.

I realize they hold back seats for season tickets, ticket plans, groups, etc, but it's weird how they go about things.

Reckon they're the pros and know a helluva lot more about these things than I do.

Think about this: If we were sitting around 32 degrees for the home opener in '15, we should be able to match that number with a 50-degree day. Fingers crossed, but most of next week has temps in the 50s, putting us a week out from the 13th on the uptick.

For March 13, the average high is 49 and the average low is 34. Those are for Central Park, so knock off a degree for the Bronx.

Last year on the opener, the high was 46 and the low was 37. It felt a lot colder than that for sure.
The second home game on March 28 was the really cold one. The low was 25° that day. Plus it snowed.
