It does make some difference as long as we have enough TAM to free up a DP slot. But yeah, this whole thing would make way more sense for NYCFC if the GAM cut were enough to buy down a player on its own.
The league should get at most 10% of any transfer. The club takes the chance on the player developing them and giving them minutes on the field - if they want to let a proven player on the team walk, then they should get the bulk of the money.
I think Harrison to Stoke is very positive for the league in general (in a way that Villa to the World Cup is not).
There's already been an uptick in quality English players coming here for college, but this should solidify the belief that you can get to the Premier League through the US. And, as mentioned, Jack has been an excellent player for us, but by no means a world-beater.

So maybe I'm critiquing the MLS roster rules a bit, but is there any chance if we sell him now we get 2/3 of the fee? Hear me out...
"A club shall receive two-thirds (2/3) of the corresponding transfer or loan fee revenue (including agent fees and other expenses), from any transaction involving a player that is NOT a Homegrown Player, Generation adidas Player, or player acquired via the MLS SuperDraft."
Jack is NOT a Homegrown player and has graduated from the GA program.
Now we acquired Jack via a trade with Chicago - not via the Superdraft as that is how Chicago acquired him.
Any chance here or am I just reaching?

I believe you are correct. In the trade when announced from the commissioner, it was a player to be named later. So we acquired Harrison via a trade and not via the SuperDraft. MORE MONEY PLEASE!
So when you think about it, we've tripled our investment in Harrison. We paid probably $250K GAM for him (plus the 4th round pick of Brandon Vincent who Chicago selected) and will get $650K GAM. And we'll be able to use the reminder of the funds to likely pay in full the construction of the training facility. Good business.

A sell on fee would have the end result of the transfer fee being a higher initial number. Doesn’t help the GAM, just the extra $ in the coffers for club operations.
Hmm...what if MLS decides to expand the amount of GAM from transfers to the stated 1.5M GAM based on tweets. Would the sell on clause result in more GAM above the additional $650K we'll receive? Would it apply to backdated transfers since the sell on part would be after the rule change? This can get so MLSy.
Last year MLS didn't release the 2017 rules until February. Transfers should have been one of the most important topics of the winter meetings so it wouldn't surprise me if there are different rules for 2018 that we don't know about yet because they haven't been publicly released.
