MLS and Apple Broadcasting Deal

Just wait till our shitty camera angle at YS. I still don’t understand why they can’t put a temp camera station in the 300/400 section if no one is sitting there anyway. Guess it’s just another thing to look forward to when we have our own home.
Maybe this is the thing that finally forces a change.

Anyone figure out a way to turn off the scores in the app or website? I know I’m not going to be able to watch all games live and I don’t really want to ruin it for myself before I get a chance to enjoy it
This!!!

It's like no one in these places has any actual interest in or experience in sports or fandom.

Tried on the TV app on my laptop and on the iPad and couldn't find anyway to hide the scores. Will try Roku as per Shwafta Shwafta later today but too lazy to go downstairs now.

ETA: Just did Roku settings. Works great. Unless your match happens to be the feature match in the big banner at the top of the scroll when you first open Roku. So now you have to figure out how to scroll past that without looking. Fuck, these people have no understanding of sport.

Just chiming in, I wasn't the one that recommended Roku hahaha

I’m honestly get mad listening to his voice since he’s Red Bulls. It’s going to be dreadful for the commentary about this team from all the Red Bull and Red Bull adjacent personalities.

We need to get over the fact that certain broadcasters used to broadcast for certain teams instead of the other. I will miss Joe and Ian just as much as everyone else, but Steve Cangialosi is a professional, and will call our games right down the middle. His job is no longer to play favorites, it's to be a neutral broadcaster. He will do it because he's a professional.

Joe Micheletti used to broadcast the Islanders. Now he broadcasts the Rangers. You'd never know. Howie Rose went the other way, you never knew. These guys are professionals. They'll call the games without bias.

I mean, I agree 100%. As I pointed out on onme of the threads, BWP gave us a pretty good rating going into the season. You see Carragher and Neville talking about the rival team all the time. It's fine.

...However at least take the frames of the rival team out of shot for the preview?

That part I fully agree with. That's sloppy from Cangialosi, and even sloppier from the producers who were working with him on that piece. Amateur hour. Someone has to notice that and change it.
Knowing broadcasters, this was probably just an honest mistake that he forgot to change.

Do we have any other footage of him doing previews? Is there always RB stuff behind him like that? Or was this deliberately put there? That would surely solve the matter

I am in Italy right now on a family vacation, returning Monday. The Apple deal has been described as including “worldwide” rights. So, will I get to watch our game on Sunday?

I had assumed so, but now I am having doubts. I tried to stream a full replay of one of the preseason games, but the app asked for my location, and then the full replays didn’t even show up as an option.

It would be the peak of irony if, for the first ever game of the new “blackout free” broadcast deal, I would be unable to watch my favorite team due to a blackout.

But in the script the digs about playing at Yankee Stadium, Citi Field, Yogi Berra and the Yankees, it’s all things you need to mention in a season preview of NYCFC but they do anyhow.

Cangialosi and Doyle do several previews together with the same backgrounds. So it wasn't a specifically directed dig. Maybe MLS should have asked him to remove it. Maybe MLS likes stirring things up like this. A couple of weeks ago they released a short promo video and 2 seconds of it showed someone slapping a NYCFC sticker over a Red Bull logo. I don't think the forum noticed it, but twitter and reddit NYCFC fans sure took the opportunity to claim it proved something or other. I think it's silly but the league hardly swings in just one direction with this stuff.

With respect to what is said:
Cangialosi praises NYCFC for making the conference finals after Taty and Ronny left midseason and says a healthy Keaton Parks would have made a big difference for the entire year and they both agree he's a very underrated player. Cangialosi notes that he voted for Callens as Defender of the Year. The "transient history" line is not even a full sentence, it's a passing reference made while discussing Mayor Adams and the announcement of the new stadium coming near Citi Field.

Doyle says Maxi had one of the great underrated careers in MLS history. He says MLS people think Tallles is a top 5 player in the league and he agrees, though more as a winger than as a 9 or false 9. He reminds everyone that NYCFC has been the best regular season team since 2016 and now have 2 cups.

Bottom line, apart from the RB jerseys, the substance of the discussion contains nothing for a NYCFC fan to be reasonably annoyed at.

Finally, there is also nothing in the discussion a forum regular does not know, and it was clearly recorded at least several days ago or more because there is no hint that Santi might be coming back. They just seem to think he's gone for good. Also, a forum member is visible somewhat prominently for several seconds.

I have no hard info. Hope it clears up. This would not help you, but I wonder if worldwide rights could still be restricted by account specifics, in that only people with Italy based accounts can watch in Italy.

This. I happen to like Cangialosi. So long as I never ever have to hear Shep Messing.

This would be disappointing. But you could certainly use a VPN to redirect out of the US. Here's one (chosen at random), free trial and all.

Terrible UI on this front. I just did the same thing, but when it takes you to the page to view the recap, scroll to the bottom on the icon where it mentions 2 versions. That is where the option for full match replay is buried.

Terrible UI on this front.

UI also terrible with the Season Previews. I saw tweets about the NYCFC preview and could not find the it or any of the previews on the Apple TV interface, except by using search. The Series was not on the front page of the MLS section. The NYC episode was not included in the section for NYCFC content. If NYCFC Twitter was not complaining about Cangiolisi's background imagery, I would not have known it was available.

It’s sadly about feelings these days rather than facts.

Thanks for the lookup for the other previews! I wasn't sure where to search for this sort of stuff, but it confirmed just about what I was thinking in the previous post. I mean, if you've watched the HRD's or any other games Cangialosi's been the main commentator, and there've been a few, he's actually done his research and knew a lot about the players etc, so I think he's rather good. Just wanted to make sure the RB gear in the background wasn't on purpose, hah!

Hopefully something also in the works. Again, knowing software development timelines... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
