MLS - February 22 - Miami (Away)

From a Birds Eye view I was happy with this game and result. If you told me at the beginning of the game we would walk out of Miami with one point I would have taken it in a heart beat. Our roster is less than it was last year and yet I can already say I like what Jansen is doing after one game more than 2.5 years of Cushing.

This was a fun watch in a wish I didn’t have a dog in the fight kind of way. Because otherwise this continues to be roster malpractice. It feels like we have a preseason roster or roster after being eliminated from playoff contention where you don’t really care about the results and just tell yourself that it’s fun to watch the kids. But it’s game one of a new season with a new higher profile coach so it’s completely unacceptable. Hopefully we will make some moves because otherwise it’s going to be a tough and painful road. With that said, I already do like Pascal ball better than Cush. Get the guy some weapons please.

What really bothers me is our failure to possess, move and retain the ball. They are old. They were on 48 hours rest. They were down a man. There is no reason we shouldn’t have been able to play keep away.

We need Pascal to unlock Parks and get him back to being the passing and shuttling force he was before whatever Cushing did to the offense.

Completely agree with all of this. The roster, Pascal, all of it. They need additions, and they need additions soon.

By the way, even if we get a result in LA, that's another opponent miles better than us and we're probably going to be saying the same things about this roster after that game.

It was nice to see Haak has a somewhat accurate long distance kick to Martinez. If both Gray and Haak can continue their growth on crosses and long direct passing, it should be a tool used against high press teams.

Several times in the first half, on the left side there would be a kick by O’Toole or Risa over the top to Ojeda to run after it and do a move. Andrade is the same thing but just faster.

But really, even who didn’t come to Miami missed out on a good time. 50% all food and beverages including alcohol and liquor with a Chase credit or debit card. We got very friendly with the Italian Vice stand.

right now, I agree we are utilizing ojeda in the same manner as andrade. but i think ojeda works harder back tracking and possibly a better 1v1 dribbler. he's not as fast as andrade but is still pretty pacey. that all being said, i think the reason we moved on from andrade was that he didn't get on well with cushing and maybe became disruptive in the locker room (this was a rumor wasn't it?)

There seemed to be a lot less of possessing for the sake of lull possessing as under Cush where we would commit to 9 or 10 safe passes before advancing the ball forward or playing the striker. Although we did fall back into that later in the game when we brought the kids on as I am sure they were told to keep it simple and play it safe and easy. That’s going to be the draw back of inexperience, they aren’t experienced or dynamic enough to play more direct.

I didn’t notice the MB interaction. It’s not really a grab the neck, but it’s definitely not a friendly touch.

It started off friendly and then got aggressive. You can see Medhi giving him quite the dirty look afterward.

It was a weird interaction. Medhi is just standing there hands in pockets and Messi comes up to him. Medhi does not seem particularly impressed to see Messi and doesn’t remove his hands from his pockets. They chat - apparently without rancor and then Messi rubs/grabs Medhi’s neck. Makes me wonder if these two know each other somehow.

It looks very much like Mehdi said something to Messi to get his attention. You can't really see Messi's mouth but he has 3 quick head movements that would easily accompany "What what what" or "Que que que."

my impression is that medhi said something not so friendly and his body language was definitely not friendly. bakrar came up to messi right after for a "good game" and messi gave him a typical "good game" hand smack/shake.

definitely a weird interaction.

just watched the post match press conf. his assessment was positive overall considering the quality miami has, even with 10 men. he referred to perea as "pepe" . it caught me off guard cause I didn't know he went by that name and i was thinking "who is pepe?".

Giving Alba a yellow card to dissent when only the captain can approach the referee. Thank you for following the book.
I was unable to watch the first half, but noted multiple times where multiple players from both teams approached the ref and nothing was done.

Glad Alba got his in the first, but more should have been given considering the update to the rule
