New Jersey (Home) - Postmatch

Not enough is being said about Mitri’s game. Tonight was the first game he truly worked his ass off. Running back to recapture the ball. And the turn and pass to Maxi for the pen. Holy shit that was beautiful. Best game in blue?

Mitri last night is the guy everyone has been asking for. He distributed, he tracked back, he played tough defense. He was really good.

I just read this article: https://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2019...fter-best-performance-his-tenure-vs-red-bulls

basically says what Dome talked about in his post game presser. but it also mentions stuff Armas said in his post game presser. He was complaining that Maxi went down too easy for the penalty and how our guys were too much with the time wasting and "our team would never do that". Was he not awake when they played DC a few days ago? Pot calling the kettle black... lol.

I hope he liked Dome's gift. I hope it was a NY IS BLUE tshirt.

It’s good to see Armas finally live up to Marsch’s legacy - at least in terms of post-game whining after a loss.

The Red Bulls were time wasting up 1-0 in the first fucking half. Plus, they got 8-1/2 minutes of stoppage time.

As for the penalty - even Shep said it was obvious.

Shut up and go back to New Jersey.

Wasn’t there a guy in Scotland who was put into prison for a headbutt in a game?
Yes! Duncan Ferguson (formerly of the World Famous Dundee United) put his napper through John McStay I think it was and spent a few months in Barlinnie. Didn't even see him get booked in the game though!

We were the better team tonight.

Let’s be honest, we are clearly the better team, period. It’s not often we’ve been able to say that about them. 3-3 aggregate is really flattering to them.

Who gives a crap about who the announcers were. My condolences if you were forced to watch on TV, but mute it, leave the complaints for the match day thread and move on.

I’d ordinarily be pissed at Mata - except for in this game. How many times have we lost with zero heart. I mind not playing this game with intensity more than I mind losing it (I think).

I kept thinking Tati was Maxi - and that’s a compliment.

Happy about the win, but won’t really celebrate until their season is dead. Preferably at our hands although not sure my nerves could take that.

What was odd was how Muyl didn’t get a second yellow for coming back on the field after his treatment and then not immediately getting off when told to leave. He was already on a Yellow, and I’m sure the ref didn’t want to send him off for a deadball minor infraction, but he clearly wasn’t allowed back on and he wasted time.

That said, the key to nullifying Muyl is to stick him with a yellow early because his entire game is physical and he was a non-factor once sitting on the card.

I was saying this to the referees. Muyl went over the sideline onto the field on two occasions as the 4th official had to bring him back on. That's illegal re-entry and a textbook yellow card. There were also an instance when Lawrence denied a restart which is also a textbook yellow card.

Can’t sing enough praises of Taty. He’s really special (minus his flopping), and he has the creative instincts to really take his game higher - we’ve seen the progress in the last year. And his ability to find space in the box is an instinct, not something many forwards have.

What was really interesting, and it showed Taty’s tenacity, was when a RB player would shield the ball from Taty keeping Taty on his right shoulder with the ball to the left, Taty every time would drop a step and then run around the back of he player to try and strip him from the back side with the longer run. He definitely had a better than 50% success rate with it and the RB player seemed surprised every time. And for a forward, that’s beneficial with quick counter tactics.

I hope we don’t lose him, as he and Heber are really special for MLS, and another year of development/game experience would do wonders refining his game.

Traded in bunch of tix we couldn’t use and threw in more cash to upgrade to pitchside for this match. What an experience.

- Legends food is actually good
- Went down to the 100 level of legends right up by the field for the player entrance
- Took the elevator back up to 200 to walk over to pitchside... took the elevator with James Sands, and Roger Bennett and his kids. Thought of stuff to say to them that wouldn’t be too annoying but just kept my mouth shut and let them be.
- Pitchside is amazing. Hung out after while Tinny came over.
- Beautiful weather. Just perfect.
- New York is blue!

Could get used to that. LionNYC LionNYC how much are those?

I'm pretty sure $4,680 are the cheapest Pitchside tickets available. They go up to $8,076. These are per season non-founding member prices from 2019. 2020 should be the same price as they remained flat (to my knowledge) year-over-year. The prices are slightly less by a few hundred for founding member status.

You could also pickup tickets on Stubhub as sometimes tickets are available.

Ref was a joke last night. The stage was too big for him and he lost his head..

I was really worried and frustrated through the first 15-20 minutes or so, as our guys looked like they were too amped up and didn't execute on (our version of) our usual methodical, if fast, build-up play, looking for switches and runs... There were too many instances of thoughtless passes and bad decisions in the final third.

But eventually we calmed down and played our game, and especially after the PK we definitively played NJ off the pitch. We all saw that we could have scored four or five goals, and NJ barely threatened after getting theirs.

I had to watch on TV, sadly, and as a recording, and my DVR stopped at precisely 90 minutes, which is a lesson for next time.

I agree that the Hebér goal should be a contender for Goal Of The Week. So smooth.

Here's hoping we come away from Vancouver with some points. I'm starting to get cautiously optimistic that we can win the East.

Yeah, not a strong game from Stott, although I think both teams ultimately suffered.
I would say we suffered more.
They only thing more he could have gotten us on was time wasting.. but that's part of the game.

The clear and obvious yellow cards and fouls he missed were pathetic.

And Ring's card 3 minutes after the fact with no actual foul called .. I don't know how that stands?

Not much to add to what has already been said. The late foul on Taty was a clear and obvious penalty imo and should have been reviewed. Perhaps Taty's reputation as an easy flopper cost him there.
And Chris Armas complaining about Maxi going down easy on the penalty is also bs. Maxi is small, I'm almost 100% sure that he didn't even partially embellish, he was simply ran over by a much bigger dude.
Don't let a guy end up with the ball behind you and in front of goal, then you won't be forced to take a penalty.

Let's also remember that if Maxi was LOOKING for a PK, he wouldn't have popped right back up and continuing playing assuming there was no call. In situations like this, he'd normally stay on the ground and/or grab the ball. But this time, he went down and popped back up and kept playing.

also:

watched MLS matchday central. they actually spent a good bit of it talking about our game and all of a sudden they're all on board the NYCFC train right now... guess we'll see how they change their minds later. Even warshaw, who is usually a huge critic, was on board and complementing us.

Let's be real here - we played them off the field last night. we had some last 10 minute nerves for sure and needed 10-15 minutes to get settled at the start.. but otherwise we were dominant. we played short for the most part and long balls were purposeful. everyone played with intensity and passion - even Mitri, who everyone (including me) have been criticizing him for lacking. By far his absolute best game last night. If he plays every game like that, we will be even more successful because he can become a huge part of our build up play, counter attack, and set pieces. Not gonna lie - I hope GMS and Isi, work their asses off and compete for a spot on the front line. Having 5 guys in top form would be insane. But based on last night's game, Taty, Heber, Mitri ...

The replay clearly showed forearm shove to Maxi’s back, not simply a hand-check, and the body movement into the shove was obvious. Armas arguing about that after the fact is poor form of a whiner.
