He's young and likely inexpensive. River Plate is also a solid club to come from.
Available international spots now down to one.
This signing is giving me international spot anxiety.
I think this is a signal that Wingert is mainly going to be used as a CB not going to play LB anymore. At this point, I wonder if the team plans to buy out a contract sooner rather than later, and based on the dollar amounts, I'd say Wingert & Hernandez are most likely with Hernandez actually filling a position of need and Wingert more expendable as a redundant cog at LB ????
Looks like another very attacking full back.
Ugh.... Wingert was absolutely lost as a CB......I think this is a signal that Wingert is mainly going to be used as a CB not going to play LB anymore.
Well that's no fun!! Don't you know how these interwebz work?????I can't comment on someone I've never seen play. The club will know better than me, so I'll trust they know what they're doing.
He was no better at LB...Ugh.... Wingert was absolutely lost as a CB......
Just to provide some additional context around this, as I didn't know much about River Plate and their development of players, but here is a list of the top 10 products that have come out of River Plate (don't believe they are in any particular order):I like the signing a young player you can develop by the youtube highlights he looks to have very good ball skills, good passing ability and closing speed. I also like that he is coming from River Plate who has on the best academy's in the world and have developed some of the best players in the world.
It is a factory to be sure. If I had to guess, though, nearly all of those guys actually starred or at least featured prominently at River before going on to bigger and better things. The fact that Martinez seems to have played a bit for River and was then loaned out has to temper expectations as a bit. All that being said, even if it is just a depth play, I like it because I think we were one FB short assuming you don't want Wingert playing meaningful minutes there.Just to provide some additional context around this, as I didn't know much about River Plate and their development of players, but here is a list of the top 10 products that have come out of River Plate (don't believe they are in any particular order):

With all our attacking fullbacks and midfield options, I really want a 4-3-1-2 even more. Pack the midfield with our four guys, give Villa a strike partner, and let Iraola, Matarrita, and Martinez bomb up the sides.
Is there anyway we can fool another MLS club into trading Wingert for a couple of young unproven talents?
