NYCFC Sponsorship Thread

How does the league account for sponsorship dollars? We must lead the league in sponsorship/ad dollars. Does it lead to Garber bucks?

Well, given that CFM sign the sponsorship deals and they are a London based CFG subdivision and Tom Glick is the former head of CFM... ;)

The club now has a deal with Profoot orthotics. To celebrate the partnership, they threw an awesome Gold Cup watch party last night at Sweetwater Social! Had a great time hanging with my buddies and watching Deuce willpower us to a win. Swag bags after were a sweet bonus too.

I'm not 100% sure how it works, but I was under the impression (maybe MagnusPax MagnusPax previously covered this) that clubs can reinvest sponsorship money into their academies, facilities, etc.

I don't claim to have all the answers but I'm pretty sure this is all non-cap funds. This money goes towards player development, training facilities, events, rent (if needed), admin type costs. So even though NYCFC could be making $10 million a year off Pepsi sponsorship, they still would only have a $4.1 million cap. (Side note: the league not the club pays the salary of players, so the cap is just a limit on how much the league will pay for players for a club).

I would like them to allow more location money for sponsorship dollars. Would keep the cap low for the cheap owners while allowing for a mechanism to let more money to flow into the league. Kind of like what they do with transfer fees

"...New York City FC employees will receive weekly Spanish language lessons, both at the Club’s midtown office and out at the Club’s current First Team Training Facility at SUNY Purchase.

Furthermore, Rennert International will provide Club staff members with special offers on classes to further their education in the future, including translation and interpretive services."

What about the players learning English? Or French (for the next couple years, hopefully)...?

I guess the sponsorship has already proved to be worth it for them then.

Let's face it. The premier football teams have for the most part long since abandoned the idea of marketing their sponsors at their actual fans. Sponsors just form one more brick in the corporate hospitality wall these days. It's not about the fans choosing to buy products sold by their team's sponsors, it's about one major business thinking that little bit more of another major business who they need to deal with because they can boast a major football team as a corporate partner.

It's not so different from companies being given a Royal Warrant of Appointment that lets them boast that they supply Buckingham Palace (I'm presuming there's bound to be a US equivalent for companies that cater for the White House, but I'm not aware of what it's called). Nothing more than a badge that lets them get all smarmy about who they hobnob with.
