Official 2016 Nycfc Roster Discussion Thread

The wheelhouse for young players is young players in their prime we haven't heard of in leagues we don't watch or young players in their prime we have heard of in leagues we do watch who have some warts for whatever reason (could be playing time, blacklisting, coach conflict, bad luck, bad food etc). The latter could be Gio or Chicha.

Dear God. Thank you for saving me typing this. I hate people just throwing out bullshit names.

Far more realistic Brooks is bought for 20-25 million euros by a CL mainstay. I would never want him to give that up.

Folks, here are some fundamental guidelines: think young guys who need PT, prime to late prime players who aren't starting every match, and those looking to sign a last contract. Fabian probably comes after Russia. Brooks has 12 years or more as UCL level starter. And a fucking boss one at that.
Brooks also just extended with Hertha thru 2019 on Jan 30

All the news that I hear coming out is about international players, but without trading for them we don't have any international slots left. NYCFCfan NYCFCfan any chance that you might know which Americans the team is targeting to fill out the roster?

Is Rawls still a trialist? He may end up taking a spot. I'd like to see one or two more domestic forwards. Villa won't be here forever. If we end up playing a 4-3-3 a lot, we'll need more depth up top. Hate to say it, but you hope for the best, plan for the worst. They should go after those last few spots with the expectation that Villa breaks both legs.

Andre Rawls, goal keeper.

Honestly, I could see us signing Rawls and cutting Johansen who's taking up an international spot. I'm sure we can pick up a third keeper somewhere. Rawls looked promising at Wilmington last year.

Loaned out players do not count as Internationals....... wonder if Johansen could possibly be looking for an apartment in Delaware for the next year.....

Not sure how much of this we already knew, but a few shirt number tidbits from the kit man's tweet just now:

Check out @KitManNYCFC's Tweet:
* Lopez looks like he has the number 5
* Harrison has number 11
* Someone else is getting the number 50 (presumably Brillant, Mattarita or Martinez)

Hate to read too much into squad number choices, but that certainly suggests meaningful roles for Harrison and Lopez

Is that Brillant as #16?

Holding 30 open for the return of Javier Calle. Too bad he may pull a hamstring on the way back!

Great find.

Are you sure that's 11 for Harrison? Looks like it is between 11 and 15, but hard to say exactly what.

Wonder who 30 will be... really. 50 is the only other # on the table that looks like it is going to a newcomer but we don't know who.

He seemed poor even for a 3rd gk from what I've seen. Hopefully he has progressed since, otherwise he's way not good enough. Also hope that we won't cut Johansen cause it's him who's a good and promissing gk.

It's looking better than a few weeks ago with TT looking healthy and playing well along with Matarrita seeing time at LW but i'd still like to see us add one more wing player for depth. Based on rumors and trialists seems like the last 4 spots could shake out as follows:

1. Bravo
2. Rawls/or another US GK
3. Ivanov - this would be amazing if he's even 85% of what he was
4. TBD?? hopefully a forward.

Between TT, Shelton, Harrison, Tommy Mac and Mattarita (who I think will play more LW than LB this year), I think we look pretty good for wingers actually. Which is pretty crazy considering how little width we had last year! I'm more worried about our depth at centre back, where there are more question marks than I'm comfortable with at this point of the year, and up front, where we will look extremely lightweight if Villa gets another bad injury.
