Patrick Vieira Appointed As NYCFC Coach

Claudio is one of the nicest gentlemen you will ever meet.

It makes all the sense in the world for the two of them to be over there right now. Let Claudio scout the EDS for loanees with PV. Watch practice every day for two weeks.

Why would Reyna scout the EDS for loanees when Vieira knows everything about each and every one of the EDS?

Further more, Vieira knows jack squat about what MLS players are available. Best bet, Vieira has spent some time building NYCFC rosters on Football Manager with the MLS Rules turned on. Seriously. Lets be honest, we won't have enough allocation money to simply go buy "the kind of players Vieira wants". It doesn't work like that. We need to make trades and wheel and deal. I am not sure NYC has the right guys to do this, I am not sure we ever had them.

Sounds like more of criticism of Reyna than Vieira. Which I agree wholeheartedly with.

Why doesn't Reyna get more blame?

What do you want to blame Reyna for exactly? With Kreis, we could pinpoint the issues. What are some examples of things we should blame Reyna for?

If you assume he had a major say in how the roster was constructed, it is a complete failure from a personnel and cap perspective.
I am blaming Reyna. He didn't control/help/whatever Kreis and he will do/won't do the same thing for Vieira. Who is Vieira going to turn to to navigate MLS roster rules and cap? Reyna. And he's proven he doesn't know what he is doing. Why would he? Except for playing a year before retirement, he has almost the same experience as Vieira understanding our league.

Reyna is getting pass because his actual contributions are obfuscated a bit. From the day Kreis was hired, he was billed as the mastermind who was going to make miracles happen and build this team. Kreis was the face of the front office. So Kreis takes the fall.

Reyna also helped fire Kreis, so he's done more for the club right there than Kreis ever did.

If Reyna is equally the problem, we'll know soon enough.

This MLS is so difficult thing has taken on a life of its own. Yes, there are some untraditional, complicated and oppressive aspects to the rules. And it takes some study and experience to understand the intricacies. But if its your job, and you spend a little bit of time working at it, it's not that difficult. It's some rules. It's not curing a disease. Reyna gets it. It doesn't mean he or anyone else will make good decisions. But the understanding the rules nonsense is so overblown.

Of course the CFG is the other half of the problem, but we can't fire everyone I guess.

We'll see if it's overblown. Have we ever seen someone not respect it and succeed in this league? No we have not. Of course there are several posters on here who just started following MLS in 2015 so what would they compare it to?

And for the record, Reyna has not proven he gets anything, except to shut his mouth when his bosses fired Kreis.

Reyna was brought in to coordinate between CFG and NYCFC and to create a Development Academy. That's his job.

If you have questions with roster construction, look at the RSL JV squad that was brought in. You think that was Claudio's doing?

I think sacking Kreis shows that someone was watching and paying attention. If they didn't care and weren't watching you would give him another year, maybe. Outsiders agree that Kreis should have been given another year. Close observers could see that another year wasn't going to fix someone who thought Grabavoy was better than poku

If we are trying to make the coach play manager and GM, we are in trouble. I think CR is in charge of all roster moves, that is his job isn;t it?

Only 2 coaches in MLS control the roster. One is Bruce Arena and the other is now unemployed Frank Yallop at Chicago. Everywhere else, there is a head coach and a GM/President/DOF that works with the head coach to build the roster. I've never heard that Kreis was the lone master of the roster. It's the GM/DOF's job to figure out the cap and make smart moves for the future. If that's not Reyna's job, then the FIFA16 kid is doing it should at least be fired, and then Reyna for not running a tighter ship.

Kreis stated on MULTIPLE occasions that he had final say over the roster. Vieira has already come out and said something similar.

Claudio is here to run EDS USA. Very important job. More important job than Tom Glick in my eyes.
