guys here at work were talking about it so i decided to check it out...... I think its really really good. I am up to season 3 two from the season finale.

I don't think 3 was a mess. I checked the ratings and it seems to grow better and better according to the critics, super surprised it only went for 4 season. Before I started it, I was under the impression that the show was a dramatization of an actual tech companies rise through the 80s which I though I wouldn't really care, but its clearly a fictitious company smashed in between real world 80s setting (ie competing with IBM, buying server time from compuserv ect.) . Sure its set in a techie world but its not really bogged down by it. Its just the setting. What makes it a great show is the character development and interactions (and I suppose some mild enjoyment of watching a company grow and develop in a fast moving world knowing what is in store for it regarding the changing PC market and development of the internet). I am watching it with my wife, and I really didn't think this was a show for her but she is always the one saying one more episode lets go! and I gotta be like no i have to get to work and not be a zombie.

Regarding the appeal of knowing whats coming and what was going on at the time. I suppose I underplayed the nostalgia aspect of the shows appeal. I'm and 86 baby, so can't say i know what it was like in the 80s/early 90s, but I was telling my wife, man when I was a kid in the late 90s, I used to love this game (Magestorm) through the AOL game platform. I remember asking my mom to lend me her credit card so I could subscribe. To be playing a FPS (albeit with spells) online vs other humans was mind blowing and so much fun. I really want to find if its offered somewhere, but I bet it hasn't aged well. I think ill just leave it so as to not ruin my fond memories. But stuff like that is a big story arc in season 2 and I was really digging it.

To be honest I don't remember the specifics of why I didn't like S3 as much as the rest. Is that the one where Joe has the odd sort of mentor relationship with a young engineer he lures into a grand venture?

Yeah, that's the season he puts on this Steve jobs zen master persona and lures that engineer Ryan away from mutiny.
I can see how its a little weird how you build this character's importance up so quickly out of thin air then drop him, literally. Like all of a sudden they introduce this brilliant coder at mutiny but no one respects his ideas. Why all of a sudden are people blind to intelligence? And then Joe takes him to be spiteful, but why is he spiteful if he really wants to be partners with Gordon the whole time? Joe somehow takes a liking to Ryan because he's brilliant, but then he does some unnecessarily stupid things that anyone with the slightest foresight would see will lead to trouble/drama. He was created and destroyed to move the story along. For sure he is the worst written character to date, but they needed him to be a tool for conflict to move all the other really awesome characters along. I'll forgive them. I don't think it makes a mess of the season. Most of the stuff makes good sense. Games company pivots to shopping then debates the merits of IPOing early which creates confilt. Joe makes a macafee-esque company, then pivots to a new venture bringing gordon back into it. Just Ryan's arc was a little weak.
Pretty sure I've mentioned it before, but I've got a great recommendation for anyone who loves fighting/action/adventure tv shows!! (TLDR AT BOTTOM) It's called Into the Badlands and it's about a post-apocalyptic world where guns have been banned and the lands have been overrun by hoodlums, so baronies were created to maintain order in this prosperous area... However, as always the barons get overrun with power and turn their workers into slaves, implementing a system with "Clippers" and "Cogs" - Clippers being assassins, cogs being, well, cogs.
The show does include mystical elements and some of the best over-the-top fighting sequences I've ever seen! My brother and I are just nearing the end of the third season, and it just keeps getting better and better, as long as you're not expecting it to be world-class. It's amazing for what it is, and it's a fun show to enjoy rather than nitpick a la GoT.
...However, it has been cancelled at the end of the third season, and whether or not one day it'll return, no one knows for certain.

Pro: Visually its very, very appealing; has Nick Frost
Con: Storytelling/dialog is as thin as tissue ; has Nick Frost in an athletically demanding role which is, is, is....my vocabulary is failing me here.....I'm looking for the opposite of immersive..... jarring? pulls me out of the scene to see him fight for more then a minute and not have him wheezing.
I watch it for my wife. She enjoys it. I think I kinda sorta liked the first season, but everything has be so trite since then I cannot help but roll my eyes. I mean for god sake, if you are going to capture someone, don't let the guy with the key get within 50 feet of the cage/shackles. How many times can they use that literal "get out of jail free card"?!
If any of you are into cooking competition shows me and my girlfriend really enjoyed Final Table on Netflix. Super high end food with top chefs from around the world. Most of which have had their restaurant ranked top 5 in their respective countries and tons of James Beard winners. Its not as "entertaining" as some of the other cable cooking competitions but it is really interesting and the food they make is always so beautiful and delicious looking.

Just got done with the 2 seasons of Bad Blood on Netflix. About the crime families dealing drugs out of Canada. The character Declan, played by Kim Coates, is alone worth the watch.
Chernobyl was an awesome mini series, fully agree and highly recommend as well. Acting was incredible and gave me excitement after the sadness of GoT ending (and ending horribly as well). I would love it if HBO did more history-inspired mini series.
The Boys on Amazon is yet another Garth Ennis comic who got adapted. Created by Eric Kripke, Evan Goldberg, Seth Rogen. Starring Karl Urban, Jack Quaid, Antony Starr, Erin Moriarty.
It's about a rogue team of regular humans that goes after superheroes. It explores mutliple themes and the show will get your attention.
