Same Boring Frank Lampard Thread 2.0

Even if Man City have secured a Champions League spot by then, Lampard will still need to rest after the full Premiership season. There is no way that he will be playing here before late July at the earliest.

The wait will have been more than worth it, as our team will then be at a new level -- in terms both of play and of national and worldwide attention. If we're still in the running for the sixth playoff spot, then that is when the business end of the season will begin.

I agree and disagree. Or, more simply, I have no idea what to think with regards to Lampard's fitness. It's great he's practicing every day against great players. But, he is a professional athlete. He's sat the bench most of the last half of this Premier season. What will he need to recover from? I'll hold my tongue for when he arrives, but when he does, his fitness will an interesting topic. He went 86' last weekend for the first time in what feels like ages. He really ought to have no excuse why he can't come in right away and contribute at a high level. I guess we'll see.

Rest for what? He's hardly played for them. He better suit up right away, and get his ass on the field once he's here. I understand that it's more of the teams decision than his, but they better not waste time with this "resting" nonsense.

I like the fact that he hasn't been playing much for Man City. But he has been in first-team training every day; and that alone is something from which he'll need a rest before he jumps into daily training for NYCFC.

Of course, he could conceivably arrive the week after the Premier League season ends and still be in top shape. But the issue then would be that he'd be completely gassed by the time we'd need him most, namely, August and September, as he would have been playing and training non-stop for a full year. Fatigue from accumulated overwork affects even young players in World Cup / Euro years; for a player of Lampard's age to attempt such a schedule would be unthinkable.

The MLS summer transfer window opens on July 8. That means Frank better have stuffed himself into an NYCFC jersey and be on the pitch in Yankee Stadium against Toronto on July 12. That gives him 7 weeks off after the Man City season ends.

Transfer windows don't enter into it, as there is no transfer. His contract with Man City will be finished once the season is over.

Yes it does he can't play for NYCFC until the new transfer window opens.

As I mentioned, there's no chance of his playing for NYCFC before July. But, anyway, a team can sign a free agent any time; it's only during the transfer window that they can acquire a player from another club. Lampard will be a free agent at the end of May.

As others point out, he's still training every day. Something tells me Frank Lampard didn't get where he is today by slacking off in training just because he might be on the bench. I'd much rather give him the extra weeks he needs to recuperate and contribute, than burn out our only (36 year-old) DP because we feel like he owes us.

And? He would be training everyday if he were here. What's is the point here? Players train all the time during the season. He hasn't played many minutes in actual games. He shouldn't be overworked or tired, and he definitely doesn't need a rest to recover.

I might not have been clear enough in my first post - I don't think he should even be training as soon as he gets here. He will need to rest. Players train all the time during the season, then they have a few months off. Then they do it again. If we ask a 36 year-old (37 year-old by the summer) midfielder to essentially put in one and a half season's worth of straight training, then I don't think we can realistically expect him to perform to a consistent level, if he's capable of performing at all. I know it's frustrating that we won't get much of a contribution from Frank this season, but I would rather maximize his ability than try and squeeze every last minute of playing time out of him.

I strongly disagree. That is all.

Another 60 mins again today .sad to say not good enough for the EPL anymore.exactly the same as Stevie me at Liverpool .

Thought Frank looked good recently. He still has excellent vision and makes fantastic passes in the attacking third. Let him be the distributor from 35-25 yards out along with Mix. We need finishers once We complete the squad.

I know it's just tabloid fodder and Lampard and his gal pal are probably looking at several different places, but I saw this and found it amusing. Plus, he's a car collector, right? So the 7 car garage would let him keep some of his favorites nearby while he's on this side of the pond.

Also... while the amount of space and the location are presumably amazing... is it just me or does the inside have all the warmth of Hoth? lol

Lampard needs a rest from training so he can come here and train? Okay then.
