Summer Transfer Window

Just reading today that PV wants a player that will challenge others to be better and will be good in the dressing room. Jumping to conclusions but "challenge others to be better" could mean a DP caliber guy or a workhorse league veteran.

I thought we had enough older leadership. Time to start upgrading current positions. Look how much 1 player with skill (Harrison) has changed the dynamic of the team. I want more skill now. Not potential skill, but turn-key skill.

I also still believe we need a big target guy...even off the bench. Between our set piece setups and us having some good players able to get the ball in the box...a big guy could be an asset. That is a player we don't have. After that it is all upgrades.

A big guy would be nice. We always play out of the back to start and having a target man would be good for Saunders.

We've shown the ability to destroy defenses while playing out of the back. Target men are helpful for set pieces.

I would prefer another burner to one side of Villa, an upgrade at CB or a Goalkeeper who is GREAT with the ball at his feet. Any one of those would improve this team for the way PV wants to play.

I watched a couple of games on MLS Live yesterday, switching between Colorado/Vancouver and Real Salt Lake/Montreal. Tim Howard is a fantastic shot stopper still, but looks completely devoid of confidence with the ball at his feet. Conversely, Nick Rimando could play a pivot midfield role with how confident and competent he is with the ball at his feet.

This.

Our offense thrives on interplay, movement and speed (at RW and LB anyway). If we need a target for set pieces, I'd rather that come in the form of a CB than someone who would displace our league leading goal scorer.

Great trade idea floated from Colorado.

Mullins for MacMath

I'd be in favor, if we can replace Mullins with someone else to have as a backup striker should Villa go down. You could then loan out Johansen to Wilmington or elsewhere and free up an international spot.

It's an interesting idea. I do wonder how much of MacMath's success was a result of the excellent defense playing in front of him. Also interesting from the article is the way they described Mullins: "Mullins is a pacey right footed striker". Pacey? The guy has some skills but I'm not sure pacey is the primary descriptor I'd use.

Make the trade Now! We can figure out the forward position later, but let's eliminate the goals that bounce in front of the keeper and over his hands - we can do that now!

The stats I saw had MacMath at or below Saunders. We have had multiple opportunities to get MacMath and passed. I've not seen him play however.

MacMath's save percentage is at 70.4% (8th in the league) 6 clean sheets in 11 games

Saunders' is at 63.3% (20th) 5 clean sheets in 20 games

It's not a world shattering upgrade, but still an upgrade. MacMath at age 24 is also 11 years younger than Saunders and only a year older than Johansen.

That being said, I think it's silly that we have a young keeper brought up through the EDS who's riding the pine.

Mullins is left footed.

is this for now? how does this makes sense now....saunders benched? not on PV's watch
Agreed. At least not this year. Even if MacMath has outstanding ball skills, it's unlikely he has experience playing out of the back in a system like PV has instituted.* Saunders -- for all his issues -- has shown actual improvement on this aspect of his game as the season has progressed and there's no way PV wants to start from scratch. I won't be unhappy but I will be shocked if Saunders is not our keeper through the end of the Blues' season, barring injury.

* I honestly don't know so I could be wrong but it seems really very unlikely.
