I'd be totally ok with them beating the cosmos first though.we need that win vs the cosmos

We obviously beat them after that.not me....losing to them twice already....i feel we must get that win as a first step en route to a run in the cup

Well they shouldn't have even been let into the tournament technically, so I'd say they've come out quite well on this.damn i just realized that the cosmos have to play two games before they even potentially play us....not one game like previous years...NASL/USL div 2 really screwed NASL teams in this

Isn't this different since the league wasn't sanctioned before 2010?yes i recall that in 2010? ( whenever that USSF DIV 2 thing happened) they were not allowed in since the sanctioning did not take place in time.

The current NASL broke away from USL after the 2009 season.is that what it was? something about sanctioning which was caused some teams to miss the cup
I'm not certain on this, but this isn't what I was referring to. I was referring to someone bringing up earlier on this board somewhere else that there was a deadline to have a schedule published for NASL in order for them to compete in the US Open Cup. NASL did not release their schedule in time, and thus, none of the teams should have been eligible for the US Open Cup.yes i recall that in 2010? Oh, here it is. Earlier in this thread from you yourself, Fantazma haha.If anyone cares: the tweet below shows the rules for the 2017 US open cup. If pro teams didnt release their schedules by 1/31/2017 they will not be able to participate in US open cup this year. MLS and USL have released but not NASL. so its not clear if they will take part in it. Of course knowing US soccer the may just give a waiver. Apparently NASL also did not take part of the 2011 US open cup for similar reason but at that time they were still not given DIV II status.
Looking forward to this. This tournament is underrated.
First game could be played at Coney Island too which would be fun to see.
Is it? We could finish high up on the shield and still make it right? Also much more important this season since it's the only way to qualify for CCL other than winning the MLS Cup (also referred to as the World Cup in the Midwest).

This is actually pretty great news. It makes the Open Cup more important.Nope. Because of the change of format only MLS Cup and USOC winners for the next 2 years will qualify*.
*unless a Canadian team wins the MLS Cup. Then it's assumed the SS winner or highest non-Canadian team in the SS race will go through.
