people defending it that its the better metric of the best team than the MLS playoffs. so yea i take it that way.
seattle/portland are the best teams of last two years not RB or dallas...both failed to win the cup
Ok, but there was nobody here saying (I think) that the winner of the SS is the champion of the league, right? Just that it is a better measure of who the better team is over the season. Which I agree with.
I don't think anybody suggested that the MLS Cup was meaningless either, so I guess I didn't understand that portion of your last post.
Seattle and Portland are the champions of the league the past two years. I don't think Portland was the best team that year. I think an argument can be made for Seattle when you consider bringing on Lodeiro. I do think FCD was the best team last year, I'm not certain on RB the year before. The Shield is a great measure for who the best team in the league is for the season, and a better measure than the Cup. But with our unbalanced schedule, I wouldn't automatically say that it the winner of it is the best team.
Every team's ultimate goal for the year is to win the Cup and that is what it should be geared towards. I would be pissed if our club just focused on winning the SS and not the Cup. Because until we win the Cup, I don't think we would be the champions of the league.
But shitting on the Shield seems quite silly and minimizing the accomplishments it represents, I just don't get it.
when only 6 supporter shield winners have won the MLS cup then yea i feel like i can belittle it.
but hey dont mind me....you all celebrate it if we win it someday....ill be happy with MLS cups and still pretty happy with a US open cup.
I will celebrate it if we win it someday. And as I already mentioned, I really won't be happy, or feel like our team has been a champion, until we win the MLS Cup. And based on the rest of the posts I read here, it seems like most other people feel the same way.

This is why it matters. It is the agreed upon method to crown a champion.
That said, "case and point" makes me crazy(er).
This strikes me as more of a condemnation of the MLS Cup than the Supporters' Shield.
For all intensive purposes, "case and point" is fine.
not to me....MLS cup is what has always declared the champion of the league. so then it shows how the "best league team" SS winner is really not the best.
only those 6 SS champions were the best.....because they won the MLS cup who just happen to win the SS as well
