U.S. Open Cup 2018

Which sucks because there aren't enough teams in the Northeast making it to the later rounds

This year was really a perfect storm of bad draws and the loss of the Cosmos and Rhinos. If they’re back as full sides next year along with the addition of a USL club in Hartford we’ll be in much better shape.

Chicago beats Atlanta 1-0, so NYCFC fans should be rooting for Sporting Kansas City the whole way through now.

41k at the game. New record for USOC. The previous record was 36k in Seattle for a final. This is just the second round for MLS teams.

I remember when Atlanta started taking deposits and they were reporting big numbers and people here were dismissing it because the deposits were refundable. That was a reasonable opinion back then but boy have the Atlanta fans proved everyone wrong who doubted them. I find them kind of obnoxious but damn they turn out. And really, they're obnoxious because they turn out online and are passionate about their team -- in MLS comments, for GOTW votes, AllStar votes (arguably misguided) and on Twitter. You can't avoid them. I honestly wish more MLS teams most especially ours had that many active, engaged fans.

We had just 23k attendance for a playoff game last year. And yes, we entered that game down 4-1. But really, we could have been up 4-1 or tied 2-2 and I doubt we get more than maybe 28k. Atlanta gets 41k for the Open Cup.

The Eastern half of the draw is so much easier than the Western half.

In the East, you have Philly v. Orlando and then Chicago v. Louisville - 3 teams with losing records in MLS play and a USL team, and one of them will make the final.

In the West, you have Houston v. Sporing KC and LAFC v. Portland - 4 teams that all have winning records in MLS play.

But like what else is there to do in Atlanta on a Wednesday night? In New York last night 30 Seconds to Mars was playing the Garden, Yankees vs Mariners, Steve Nash Soccer Showdown, a few charity events here and there.

Come on there isn’t nothing to do in Atlanta. We also have almost 4 people in metro NY for every 1 person in metro ATL. They show up really well and attendance here isn’t as good as it should be, I don’t think that’s a stretch.

Very, very quick Google search: There was a Train, and Hall & Oates concert, a Logic concert, and Wanda Sykes and Tig Notaro doing standup.

I know NYC has a ton of stuff going on, but let's not act like Atlanta is Springfield, IL.

But most importantly, what LeeNYCFC LeeNYCFC said above.

Quarterfinals are tonight, including a repeat of Sunday's game between Portland and LAFC.

Interesting that in the dumpster fire that has been Orlando's season, they are still alive and kicking in the Cup. After that 6 game winning streak, they lost 9 straight in MLS play, but mixed in were two US Open Cup games, and they won them both.

You also have a possible semifinal matchup between James O'Connor's present and past teams.

Allen Chapman is refereeing the Houston-Kansas City match, so you know Houston is going to win so he ends up fucking NYCFC again.

Chapman also refereed our match in Houston where Herrera was injured that ended his season, only for a yellow card to be issued.

Philadelphia 1 - Orlando 0 (FINAL)
Chicago 2 - Louisville 0 (60')
Houston 1 - Kansas City 1 (65')
LAFC - Portland (10:30 PM)

Houston 3 - Kansas City 1 (72')

Looks like we're going to have to top the aggregate table to get that CCL spot, or win MLS Cup.
