Would be nice to play a non-MLS team for both variety of opponent and theoretically an easier match. Don’t want a fcking derby game in the opening round and don’t want to play on NE’s plastic surface. Our group for the draw this morning
NYCFC
NJRB
NE Revs
Louisville City FC (USL)
Would make for a fun match to watch.A few facts about Louisville City FC - besides the fact it is derivatively named.
Defending USL Cup champs.
Record of 6-2-1 on the season, for 19 points in 10 games.
Good for 2nd place in USL East, and 1st in points per game.
In 4th year of existence (like us).
Averages 8,600 home attendance.
Red Bull’s U23 of the PDSL lost in the first round. For some reason I don’t think RB II is in the cup this year. One issue for us is geography. There are very few USL teams in the northeast.
There are 3 in Pennsylvania (Pittsburgh, Bethlehem and Penn - which is in Harrisburg). But, north and east of New Jersey, there is only 1 team, Red Bulls II, and they lost in the first round.

Thanks. I thought IIs just couldn’t play their MLS affiliate until it was unavoidable. Didn’t know they are out altogether.no "2" teams are allowed for two years now ( or maybe three). However "hybrid" USL teams seem to be case by case. Reno is allowed to play but RGV is not.

The geography part of this draw for the 4th round is understandable, but made out to be too big of an issue (by the organizers). Divide the country in half (at the 4th round) and let the lower division teams host so they have zero travel expenses. Allow the higher division teams to charter travel so that the midweek match, potentially half of the country in distance away, is as manageable and seamless as possible. This will allow a more varied draw every year and keep 2or3 teams in each pot from almost always playing each other year in and year out.
I’d like to see them dump the non-playoff teams in a round earlier to add a little more meaning to the standings and bump up the opportunities for “upsets”
Have you ever considered a career as the assistant to the traveling secretary? The geography part of this draw for the 4th round is understandable, but made out to be too big of an issue (by the organizers).
