I'm assuming this is using the continental championship tournaments, so the Gold Cup for the US.
You're confusing qualifying with the Gold Cup. If WC qualifiers determined the regional champions then it would not be possible for teams like Italy and New Zealand to be champions and not qualify.
ETA: this is a very reasonable confusion and it's stupid they are different. We don't need both except as regional federation bribery machine money grabs. And adding the Nations League is beyond stupid.

not to mention they've added nations league to some parts of the world and that adds to the confusion. for example, morocco is african nations championships champion while senegal is afcon champions.
CR had nothing. and they didn't even look like they were trying. no pressure on the ball all game against a spanish side who would thrive with time and space.

What a debacle from the officials in this Belgium - Canada game. Missed that second penalty completely. Nearly incompetent.
I’m glad we’re getting S.American Refs. We can’t get Euro or Concacaf. I think this is better than African/Asian options. Hope we get Euro Refs for Iran.

Substitute “this tournament” with any other sports tournament or league anywhere in the world.
Whatever is currently happening is the thing where fans think officiating is the worst and is a massive issue that needs to be solved and we forget that we have that same exact opinion of officiating everywhere else.

If Belgium keeps playing like that they are at best gonna go out in the first knockout round. That was def a second PEN. Canada deserved better, though Davies’ penalty was pretty weak.
There is truth in this, but I think the World Cup is bad even by those low standards.
And this should not be surprising. Instead of bringing in the best refs in the world, FIFA spreads around the call ups, so that we get crews from all over the world. So, instead of 3 crews each from England, France, Germany, Argentina, Brazil, etc., we get single crews from those places and then single crews from Qatar and China and Rwanda. So, things get very uneven.
Think back to 2010 against Slovenia and Coulibaly from Mali. You get some of that at every World Cup.
