U.S. Open Cup 2019

Probably cheaper to rent this place than open RBA for 3k people.

Who here is enjoying the schadenfreude of RBNJ fans “our stadium is the best ever” bitching because they have to play an Open Cup in an alternative venue?

So this is because RBNJ no longer owns their stadium and management probably did the math and realized it would cost more to run the game than they would take in. Tickets are $10 so maybe they’d bring in $30k. Also, from what I remember open Cup games used to be free for RBNJ fans.

I know Medina has been underwhelming here (this is probably an understatement), but I doubt having him on the field against a USL team would be similar to 10v11.
Uh, ok. You acknowledge he’s been underwhelming, and I’d elaborate that he’s been downright awful this season, and it’s been against the gambit of quality/lacking-quality teams in MLS.

Medina hasn’t proven he’s capable of being a factor on the field, so why give him the benefit of the doubt? Because it’s a USL team? Doing that is the same as any team saying we’re better than another (that has a losing record) and then goes out and lays an egg. Happens all the time.

Medina is a non-factor player until he proves differently.

I'm not sure I'm giving him any benefit of doubt. Just avoiding hyperbole that we are playing a whole man down if he's on the field against a USL squad.

An interesting note that I didn't realize before, Dave Sarachan is the manager for NCFC.

Why avoid hyperbole when it’s exactly what’s required - the team isn’t literally a man down, but his lack of contribution & continuous ghosting during a match has the virtual effect of being short handed.

FWIW, this has nothing to do with the Red Bulls not owning their stadium. My understanding is that they have a lease that allows them to operate the stadium in exchange for yearly rent payments.

This is actually a cash grab, as Red Bull STH get USOC games at RBA for free but not at MSU:
