This is a one shot deal. When I had a round table with Patricof before the season started it was very clear that they want to construct a stadium with the ability to expand somewhere down the line.
Is this site big enough for any real expansion? It may be more viable to build new than add significant capacity.

I have a feeling parking

Calling this one now: The club gets into a partnership with Rugby United New York (new club who will begin play in Major League Rugby next year. They are currently playing at Gaelic Park up near van cortlandt park in the Bronx. They will then share the ground with us.

i thought they were gonna play at RBA..or that something else or another rugby league? i could of sworn i read that

I think this is right. The club is pursuing both sites, and probably using each as leverage against the other, both to get (1) approval as soon as possible, and (2) the best possible terms. Which is not a guarantee that either comes through, but things seem less vaporous now than ever before.

Which makes why they are being so coy a lot more explainable.

This is also a total guess, but I think there is probably more money in the Willets Point location, but that they'd prefer Harlem Yards site from a soccer perspective (as someone mentioned, the ability to use Randall's Island is a big plus for the academy as you'd be able to more formally roll up programs like Manhattan Soccer Club, etc.).

There's definitely something to this, considering the history of the two chief executives who have sway over these sites. You can totally see them saying, "Hey, governor/mayor, your rival is right there across the river. You want us to walk over there and hand them a big win?"

Another question: That rail line that's going to be partially covered by the stadium. Would anyone know if a station could be constructed at next to or under the future stadium and a spur could come off of the Hudson Line?
There is an employee stop at Harlem River Yards already, but it's really rinky dinky, but a platform with a bridge towards the stadium seems like a relatively easy build, even if it isn't in the immediate plans. Still seems like pretty far walk, but would be nice for the Hudson Liners used to getting to Yankee Stadium so easily.

Honestly, I’d love to see Cuomo stick it to BdB with this:

Cuomo: Hey Bill, that pet project you like to do with affordable housing, well I just delivered a bunch of units to the Bronx, threw in a medical center, a free (I’m guessing) prep school, office space/amenities, and reinvigorated the water front. All it “cost” was a soccer stadium that you killed when you took office. How ‘bout them apples?!?!

DeBlasio is too myopic to understand how Cuomo got the better of him in this situation.

He’d still think he “won” cause he stopped the big bad wealthy guys from building something that would have made them even wealthier. In his mind, Cuomo will be the bad guy who gave wealthy people something they wanted. Cause everything is a zero-sum game.

Serious question. Does anyone think we may build a short term minded stadium? Let's say they want one of the Citi field area sites or some other grand plan that may take an extra 5-10 years. Do they build a stadium now with a 5-15 year projection and continue pursuing their moonshot stadium?
The first stadium would still have value and being in NYC, probably enough to make building a short term stadium viable. Especially if the short term alternative is the expense and limitations of Yankee Stadium.

Only in the Stadium thread do we get what feels like our first concrete leak immediately followed by ideas for our second stadium. I simply cannot with you people. :tearsofjoy::tearsofjoy::tearsofjoy:

Wouldn’t be surprised if that’s exactly what happens tbh.
