2016 Mls College Superdraft

In a perfect world, I would like to see a starting XI caliber CB. If not, I just want speed.
I'm mostly in agreement with you, but speed for the sake of speed isn't always the answer - Shelton blows by everybody and then cannot figure out what to do with the ball when he gets to the box.

Johnathan Campbell would be another good pick.
I think if Vincent is gone, Campbell is the right second choice. CB needs so much help right now we're almost certainly going to be doing a lot of auditioning in the early going of 2016. Having a young option who could compete for starting minutes and have a high ceiling would be a good option.

I say trade the pick for something of value. If Shelton was the #2 pick last year, and none of the draftees really made much of an impact, aside from larin, I'd say the college players are not worth the roster spot and try to get allocation money or intl spots for our pick.

I disagree. For one, Shelton isn't too shabby. Second, last year's draft was a bit weak, this year's should be better, according to what I'm reading. Finally, the draft is where we get our cheap players from. Gotta fill out that supplemental roster, and we've already traded away three of our four picks.

Last year, I was in favor of taking the best player available. I think we did that with Shelton. Despite his injuries, he's showed the pace that could make him an exceptional, Zardes-like, talent in this league. He just needs time and health.

This year? I don't know. It seems like the draft is deep with creative midfielders. Chances are, this is the last year for both Lampard and Pirlo. Would it be awful if we took a kid like Harrison and let him train with the first squad or play in Wilmington for the year? If he has the highest ceiling, I wouldn't necessarily be against it if he's a "sure" thing.

Otherwise, can't go wrong with a speedy attacking fullback or a CB that's ready to play right away. Especially on rookie wages.

Once Lampard is gone after the coming season, and Pirlo after next season, we will still have Poku, Mix and MacNamara as capable CMs on our roster. That's three young guys we can build around. No need to increase the logjam at CM for the time being. Get a winger or a defender. Best available when we pick.

Very few college players are going to be able to make an immediate impact, but that doesn't mean you don't want them on the team. The draft needs to be a tool for building the roster for future years. It's our best way to get those 20-22 year olds that can be starters in 3 years or so, and they will not cost much while they develop.

Especially now when we don't have our academy fully built out to have guys ready to join the team. The only way we can acquire somewhat capable guys of that age are through much more expensive means.

We should not be expecting to find our starting CB in this draft, we are very unlikely to find one...it simply will not happen. It is much wiser to look 2-5 years down the road with our pick. Sure, you do on occasion see a player come out in his rookie year from the draft and tear it up, but it's rare, and with the overall rise in the discrepancy of the quality of play between NCAA and MLS, it is becoming rarer. When it works, it also usually tends to be the guy that overachieved and was not pegged to be a starter on draft day.
If we had the number one pick, and a guy like Larin was available who just about everybody knew would contribute, then we could pick a starter. At #4, we should draft a guy who has the potential to develop into a starter down the road.

Tommy is not a full 90 minute player, he's an excellent 30 minute sub! But that's my opinion

My wish list is: 1. Yaro 2. Danladi 3. Vincent 4. Campbell 5. Harrison

I'd want best player available if one of the first two is around at #4. If not, I'd rather get defensive help than add to an already crowded midfield. I don't think the drop off to the two defenders would be that great and they'd be able to help in the present and hopefully be long term starters in the future.

This.

Reading that Yaro probably projects as a RB. I would prefer that he is off the board by the time we draft.

Danladi would be my choice

He's likely too short to be a CB, so that means he either needs to play CDM or FB. I'd try him at CDM first.

In fact, if he's forced to FB, I'd rather have Vincent, who has proven distribution skills from that spot. But everything I've read about Yaro says he could be a dominant defensive midfielder. Just needs the distribution skills to be a complete player at the spot, which nobody seems to speak to in their evaluations.

Which means he isn't ready to
Contribute on day one. We need a day one player. Not someone who changes positions and we hope he pans out. I think Yaro drops for this reason anyway b
