2016 Schedule!

The RedBulls are not NY plus Pirlo and Lampard are getting up there in age but to say there not in shape is crazy on you're part.
Lampard took a long time to get in game shape when he came over here in the summer.

The NY/NJ thing is so stupid. Do the Giants and Jets fans on here call their team the New Jersey football Giants or New Jersey Jets?

No. You call them the NY Giants/Jets because its a team you like. You don't like the Red Bulls so you try this RBNJ/New Jersey Red Bulls thing as some kind of 'diss' to the club. You do it because you have nothing else to say to try to put the club down. Its sad really. You have no wins, no playoffs and no trophies.

I believe in the early parts of the season, Montreal play their first few matches inside at the Olympic Stadium.
Correct. Its way too cold in Montreal to play outside, so the league tries to schedule games against marquee opponents to try to fill up Olympic Stadium.

Someone sounds like a MetroStars sympathizer. The Giants and Jets are called the New York Giants and the New York Jets because they originally played in New York.

If there is no team of the same sport occupying the name of that region than the team of the nearby area can take the name of that said region without a team in it due to proximity. Since there are no NFL teams in New York (Buffalo is New York State), the Giants and Jets are okay being called the New York Giants and New York Jets. If they Jets would have gotten their downtown Manhattan stadium, then the names would be up for debate in the eyes of the fans.

The New York Red Bulls were originally the New York/New Jersey MetroStars and have always played in New Jersey. Now there's a team playing in New York from the start, so NYCFC is New York, Red Bull is New Jersey. The police at the Meadowlands and Red Bull Arena are New Jersey, the troopers are New Jersey, the youth clubs are New Jersey. There is no New York flag when colors are presented, there is a New Jersey one.

Ah, where to start. LionNYC already covered some of the basics, so ...

Why do we mock RB as NJ, let me count the ways, or reasons.
  1. It's fun.
  2. RB are in NJ.
  3. It's still fun.
  4. It fits the general story line of a loser entity from a loser location.
  5. It was originally NY/NJ and they dropped the NJ despite the fact that they are clearly NJ.
  6. Many former Metrostars supporters will take any shot they like at the organization that chose to rebrand for a corporate name. Imagine the NY Pepsi-Colas. Red Bull is no better.
  7. And of course, it's a lot of fun.
And FWIW, growing up a Bills fan, for about 30 years I've been laughing at the Jets and Giants as NJ teams and talking about Buffalo as the only real NY team.

Ermm...if this upsets you then I'm not sure you're cut out to follow a football team. I mean, in my years of following football (and I'm not US-based, so I've been surrounded by it since birth) I think that the "New Jersey" jibe is one of the mildest I've ever heard. And then coming onto the forum of your rival to complain about it? What did you think you were going to achieve?

You're pretty lucky that this forum has the CoC rules it has to keep this chat civilised. If you tried complaining about this kind of thing on an English football forum you'd be torn limb from proverbial limb!

No wins? I assume this is a veiled reference to no wins over RB because obviously we won some games. I also like the no playoffs diss, like we have been around for decades. We are 0 for 1... No big. If this was a baseball game we would get a few more at bats before being deemed a failure.

Also RB has never played in NY, never. To claim "this is NY" when your club has always been in NJ in disingenuous and also insulting to the state of NJ, a state that has a good tradition of youth soccer and player development.

Since I've always considered myself a "glass is half filled" kind of guy, I always try to find the silver lining in the cloud.

In only one season we have as many MLS championship trophies as the NYRB's have in 20 years. Now that's an accomplishment!

Where does one start with that schizophrenic team that started as the NY/NJ Metrostars because they wanted to be tied to NY (in name only) while going after the soccer mom suburban demographic? It's a loser organization and has been for the last 20 years. Two Supporters Shields & the La Manga Cup count for very little over two decades. There's the Curse of Caricola, two of the worst GMs ever in the league that set the team back years each time: Charlie Stillitano (the guy that wanted to model the Metrostars after AC Milan) & Alexi Lalas (the guy that wanted to make a 'Super Club'), the original retirement player Lothar Matthaus, the wasting of the #1 pick on a nobody named Steve Shak that lasted only 38 total games in MLS, a corporate re-branding that alienated half of the club's fans, then dropping of the NJ once the club got on meds while adding bi-polar to the schizophrenic diagnosis, the firing of a coach that was a team legend with a winning record which subsequently birthed the RedBullOut movement, and the best soccer stadium in the country that cannot even average 80% attendance for the year.

Yes RB has a great Academy, but that's a product of the vast population of the region more than an achievement of the club. The greatest accolade a RB supporter can trumpet is that they swept three games from their 1st year "crosstown" rival - beyond that they've got nothing to be proud of or reminisce for the last 20 years. Nothing. It's not that reminding them they're a New Jersey club is the only way to 'diss' them, it's that it takes too much energy to remind them of the 20 god-awful years of existence that they've had to endure of that burning trash heap.

Great post. Red Bull New Jersey only became relevant in this league when we came on the block. Do they have blocks in New Jersey though?

I don't disagree with you, I share some of your views but I respect the other side too.
I have one question, obviously you have a biased perspective, so why are you on this board?
Makes no sense to be on a teams board that makes you so upset....

City folk (I like that WAY better than Cityzens btw) calling Red Bulls New Jersey is akin to NJRB supporters calling us Man City USA or something along the lines. It is widely done and is typical of a rival!

Let's not forget the toddler tantrum the fans threw before the season ( don't even say his name!) Only to do better than petke with a worse team, and then not show up for your playoff games.

And the losers who still refer to the metro stars, even though you are hopelessly rebranded as a billboard.

It's clear why he is here, he'd rather be blue.
