2018 Roster Discussion

I don't know why people are flipping out about this. Sands went on loan for 2 weeks and went straight into the starting XI when he came back. The precedent has been set, all Lewis has to do is ball out and Dome will give him a chance.

In principle, sure (although Sands got his starts because of the international break more than his loan performances). In this particular case, nah, the USL's not going to be a ticket to playoff starts. Maybe Lewis will come back and start the last game of the season when we've got nothing left to play for, but that's pretty much the case now. This move is Dome telling us he's got too much tactical work to do with his best eleven in the next six weeks to give the kids developmental time.

So presumably he's going to rip it up in the USL, right? Otherwise, what then?

With the Lewis fan club it's never his fault and if it is he must be accommodated like changing formation so he doesn't have to play defense. If he doesn't rip it up it will certainly be because those USL scrubs couldn't provide him with the service he needed.

So Lewis is responsible for the 9 point week? What kind of revisionist history is this?
Oh I don’t know, maybe because it’s a fact.

Versus RB, Lewis stripped the ball in pressing and created the opportunity for the only goal

Versus Montreal, he got the third goal.

Versus Columbus he hit the post with his shot, grabbed the rebound and fed Medina for the first goal.

I say this with all due respect, but do a little research before slamming another poster with the revisionist history tag.

This just means that with Berget, Shradi, Medina and (perhaps) Wallace and Castellanos becoming available, Lewis wasn't getting minutes. Lewis has his fans around here, and with good reason. But, when healthy, we have a logjam at forward/winger, and it is better for him to get minutes than spotty appearances as a reserve.
Agree with everything you said, but the inclusion of Wallace over Lewis will be malpractice if it happens. Wallace is the anti-forward and doesn’t deserve another minute on the field between now and when his contract expires.

So only 3 of the 9 points, thank you for clarifying that for me

No, 4 of 9 points for certain, if not more like 6.

The starters didn’t do shit against RB and that would have easily been a draw at best or a RB gut punch loss without him.

Against Columbus the team was also heading for a tie at best until he took the reins in the box. Without that first goal forcing Columbus to attack, the second doesn’t come.

And you’re now changing the point of your argument. You picked the 9pt week to focus on, own it that you were wrong being flippant towards Dan.

Only difference is that Lewis can learn and develop on loan, whereas with Wallace he's just going to be shit offense and potentially helpful on defense. Loaning out Wallace wouldn't change anything. Loaning out Lewis will give us a chance to *hopefully* see him add more to the defensive side of his game, as noted by dummyrun . He will hopefully get decent time across 6 games versus sub appearances in presumably 3/4 games for us. Gets him in shape and game experience right before the playoffs, so he becomes our suuuuuuuuuuuuuuper sub.

Wallace should be an 89th minute sub for a tired Medina/ITS/Castellanos/Lewis (future??). Nothing more.

Tangential to your point but we shouldn't really care whether Lewis gets goals and assists on loan. We already know he can do that. This is his chance to get better at the off ball runs and tracking back that Dome's looking for.
We know he can score goals as a starter? Not coming off the bench against tired legs? Wow, I guess we're wasting our own version of Josef Martinez on the bench...

I wasn’t advocating Wallace go on loan over Lewis, only that Wallace should never see another minute in any situation - his inclusion in a game.

I’m fine with Lewis going on loan to get the minutes - just baffled by how long it took to make happen. And he’s going to a coach that truly is a believer in youth talent.

Nope, I'm not buying into the Lewis is beyond going out on loan narrative. The only gripe I had was Wallace getting minutes over him. I don't believe he's earned consistent minutes above Tajouri-Shradi, Medina, or Castellanos.

You have an amazing way of gaslighting your argument from post to post.

Castellanos sucks i don’t know how you say he is better then Lewis. Castellanos has played more minutes then Lewis and has worse stats and he missed sitters these last 2 games. I think Lewis went on loan as a signal to the club he wants out of NYCFC. Loans don’t come this late they clearly are building his value again to
Trade him. No need for him to waste his talent here

The above is just so off-base and out of touch with reality that I felt it was worth quoting.
