Maybe we can rescue Cyle Larin from his Turkish prison.

That is a very interesting suggestion. The Dude just scores goals from impossible positions and is an aerial threat as a target.

November 27 - Players Out - Roster options were announced on this date on both 2016 and 2017. Players retiring will happen beforehand (see Lampard, Iraola, Ballouchy, and Pirlo). This is the date where the club will likely exercise or not exercise its options on players contracts or when contracts/loans come to an end. The biggest question is does David Villa re-sign, and if so, at what price tag?

Player Out Wishlist:

Berget - $600,000
Hountondji - $220,000
Herrera - $200,000
Ofori - $324,999
Amagat - $240,000
Wallace - $300,000

Players I wish we could either buy down/get rid of:

Medina (I believe this year he could be bought down from DP but not 100% on that. If we can, he can stay)
Sweat (This one won't happen because of 200,000 reasons but a guy can dream)

With just the players listed coming off the books, that gives us $1,884,999 in cap space, not accounting for any potential increases to the cap that may occur due the revenue increases, increases in TAM/GAM, etc.

I also know we still have most of that money from Harrison being sold that we can use to bring in another player, so we *should* have close to $2,000,000 to spend this off-season. This also isn't including if someone gets taken in the expansion draft to Cincy.

Chanot I believe is out of contract as well and wasn't resigned with the last group, so I'd like to say it's safe to assume he's gone. So that's another $375,000 if he doesn't resign with us.

Villa potentially coming off the roster as well frees up a DP space, so with that DP spot and the money available to us, this team will look a whole lot different come next season.

If we took on Medina's transfer fee all in his first year's salary (above DP threshold), does that mean his base salary for the following year (if below the DP threshold) can be paid with TAM and open a DP spot?

2018: $650,000 salary + $4mil fee = $4.65mil on the books
2019: $650,000 salary on the books -- still DP?
etc.

Possible?

Not sure and I'm not even sure MLS knows. I've spoken to a few people that have a lot more knowledge than I about the way it plays out and all of them pretty much came back with the same answer: No one knows because MLS changes the rules every year.

Apparently the way it's supposed to be is that his transfer fee is supposed to be broken down and spread throughout his contract, so each year would essentially have a $1,000,000 added to it because of this. But in the past, teams have been allowed to buy down DP contracts that were higher than the $1.65 per that he's getting, so it's a big gray area.

Also note: It's only been very recently that MLS teams have even begun to pay transfer fees on players, let alone fees this high, so this is all kinda new territory for everyone, league included.

what did robbie keane do ?

i dont know who takes him if its MLS? I mean is he technically a free agent?

Id like to think its Sporting Gijon but i dont know if they can even afford him even at a discount.

He played in India for a season. Maybe Villa goes to the Middle East?

That's been my thinking, that it's more likely that Villa plays another year somewhere to expand his academy brand (Middle East, China, Japan, maybe even Australia since he learned English and could stay part of CFG), than another year of slugging it out in MLS

as long as he doesnt get another DUI

although i thought Orlando was the frontrunner there. I could of sworn that Besiktas was looking to sell him and orlando was looking to get him back

I don't see him leaving NYC and staying in MLS.
  1. I don't think he would go for that.
  2. There may be some teams that wanna pay him several million for one year, but I'm guessing that is a very short list, if there are any.

maybe he does stay to start the queens USL team
