Ref fucked up really bad there. Goalies are the only players allowed to stay on the field even with medical personnel coming onto the field. All field players have to be brought back on by the ref. Your kids' team got screwed by a ref who doesn't know the rules. Unless kids soccer is different?
He around the midfield line right near the benches, slipped or got tripped by the ATL defender who then planted his foot on Isi's hand. Not sure if intentional though, was too far to tell. Isi was definitely in pain though.

Not quite that the rules have changed, but I think "dangerous play" has always been subjective and it's possible that the interpretation has changed over time. Honestly my first impression was that it looks like there was less contact between Twellman and defender.
The reason everyone stated that Villa was called was because "It's dangerous to make a play like that when there's a player next to you", which obviously Martinez was, and we all know that Martinez lunges into VIlla during that play. Here, the two defenders don't lunge in the same way, but if anything I'd say it's worse because he went for it and the players were right next to him. Slightly off and that's in their face. Just my two cents though.
