Away 05/10 - Red Bulls

The Kreis blame in this thread is just silly. When given an impossible task, of course the person is going to look stupid and run out of ideas.

No manager in the world could turn this into a winning team.

It's real simple. We don't have talented players. We just have to wait this out and get some roster turnover in the offseason, and build from there.
He took off our two most talented players last night. Is it a coincidence that we couldn't get out of our own half with Jacobson passing to the red bulls, and Grabavoy sucking? Is a coincidence that Villa was not dangerous while trying to play left MF? If Mix is going to play CAM, then who is going to get him the ball? How many times does Poku have to come in and look better than Grabavoy ever has before Kreis gets the bright idea to sit his bestie and see what Poku can do with 90 minutes.

The weak slow roller that Grabavoy hit while wide open 15 yards from goal is pissing me off the more i think about it.

Kreis said Villa came off due to fitness concerns. He hadn't started in almost a month so it's understandable.

As for Mix, he was shit last night and he'd tell you that himself. He didn't even appear in the locker room after the game.

He may have been shit, but he definitely wasn't the shittiest.

Did he play at RSL?

Thank you Gavin, I needed that.

Are people honestly suggesting that Kreis was justified in his substitutions because he wanted to make a statement? When your down one and RB are playing with 10 men thats the time to win a game not make petty statements by subbing off your best players and keeping on your worst.

What exactly is he expecting from Villa and Diakerud? To pick up the slack of the whole team (Primarily Kreis's RSL golden boys) Mix has to carry the midfield and shore up the defense simultaneously. No room for offense. Villa is out of position and cant get service or playing time. Im confident he would of scored if played same with Mix.

He hasnt a clue as Tom in fairfield said. Hoping for a slight change in wind direction to help us score is not giving me any confidence in his coaching abilities. He is a lost cause. Thinking Ballouchy is going to save us because he had 2 lucky goals set up for him while failing to provide anything else in terms of on the field presence.

If he wants to make statements sub off the shit that smells of Grabavoy Jacobson and Wingert. So sick of the excuses for Kreis.

Well I don't personally think it was a "statement", but I thought it was a wierd substitution. To take Mix of when there was other players on the pitch having much more of a bad day. Mix is one of the best players in the team, and sure only because of that he shouldn't always be certain of a place in the starting lineup. But if it's someone who can deliver a great pass, find some space or do a goal on his own from the midfield role, it's Mix.

On to the next game boys!:)

Are you Jason Kreis or something? What in heavens name are you talking about? Alvarez was our best player on the pitch by far. Hes done 90 for us before and could and should of yesterday. As for Villa....Unproductive and whiny? Those are terms Id apply to Grabavoy and some other players we fielded but not Villa. He is a striker playing in midfield and was subbed off before he could make an impact. The only unproductive and whiny people I saw stayed on for a full 90...

Since when is being frustrated reason for substitution over just being plain shit? If thats the strategy we are going to adopt we are set for failure. You sub off shit players not performing not the players who sinply show emotion and frustration.

Alvarez was definitely not the best player on the pitch by far (he's a turnover machine) and it was very evident that Villa was not motivated yesterday. If you're a world-class player, you shouldn't wear your frustration on your sleeve. Emotion is fine but especially don't let it affect your game. That's not how a captain acts. He had turnovers, didn't hustle on defense, and looked entitled to the ball. I have no problem taking off a player (even if its Villa and he had almost 70 minutes to get in his groove) if he is unproductive. Especially since we have no chemistry to begin with. (However, you are right, this whole convo could be a mute point if Kreis adjusted tactics and put Villa up front where he belongs when RB went to 10 men.)

Even though Grabavoy made no significant contributions (like usual) he at least plays with heart, he hustles and gets fouls for us, there is ancillary value there until we get better midfielders. No one played great, best one on the pitch was probably Saunders, again.

I don't see a reason to keep a player on the field if he is unproductive and brings no value, especially if he has a poor attitude.

I thought the substitutions were questionable, but maybe not the worst thing because the lineup on the field at 60 minutes was not winning that game for better or worse and we need Villa/Mix/Alvarez fresh on Friday.

The two huge tactical gaffes for me were:
1- Completely failing to recognize that Sam would skin Allen all day long. In the first 3-4 minutes, they pushed the ball out to Sam on the rightwing several times and he had space constantly, ultimately resulting in the first goal. You could see it coming.
2- Similarly, why push so aggressively at the start of the second half? At that point, you have a man up for 45 minutes and the only thing that takes you out of the game is getting hit on the counter-attack. But right from the start of the half, you could see we were only leaving three guys back and the inevitable happened.

The atmosphere was great though. Lots of fun. I was sitting a few rows behind the NYCFC behind and the funniest moment was when Villa got subbed off and was walking slowly (which was a bit lame) and RJ Allen told him to speed up. That was high comedy.

As someone else said, Villa had fitness concerns. He was also running all over the pitch like a madman trying to make things happen, I commented at the 30 minute mark that he'll need to be subbed out in the middle of the second half.

As for Mix, he was playing poorly. Grabavoy was playing poorly. Jacobson was playing poorly. EVERYONE was playing poorly. If he could have subbed off the entire team he probably would have. But you know what, it doesn't matter what we do. We suck. Every player on our bench sucks. Every player on the field sucks. Whatever Kreis does, the outcome is probably going to be the same. Shit play, and a loss.

Kreis can only control whether we look super shit, or just kind of shit, and how much we lose by.

Exactly. Why is Mix coming under more scrutiny then anyone?

from what i saw ( mind you i was influenced by a few drinks i have had pregame), it seemed like mix was getting out manned physically and also lost the ball way too easily. the same with villa but with villa he had to come down alot to get something going on attack ( and man was villa PISSED when he was subbed out, and also after second goal he had arms in his saying " i cant believe this") . I believe that is why kreis subbed in poku and mullins. Try to use more of a physical presence on the pitch even though we were up a man.

this team lacks offensive bite, and it became even more painfully clear with yesterdays game. team cant score more than 1 goal.

as for the defense, do we really need to mention them. its been bad all year really.

What a load of crap. Kreis consistently plays players out of position, creates lineups based on nepotism and personal relationship over real talent, makes dumb substitutions, is slow to making necessary changes in lineups and by the time he does change its only after weve had a series of injuries. He is an overrated and losuy coach. The legnth people go to defend him or to shift blame is incredible to me.

Well then you get back to the question of who put together this team and then you can start blaming Kreis again. If our team was so great that we could afford to waste draft picks on a guy we sent to TO, waste a pick on Sal Zizzo for a back up keeper, waste a pick on George John who will not play this year, waste all our picks on washed up RSL guys who Kreis knows better than anyone. Let Dan Kennedy get away, Ballouchy. TRADE for Brovsky. WTF, I'm depressing myself.

He said character went into player decisions. From what I've seen with the team quitting in a derby playing against 10 men for pretty much an hour of play, no one but Mullins showed any heart. And we have the one who bailed on the team. Maybe it's the guys picking the players who lack judgment.

This notion that Mix Villa got subbed because they were crap is just pure horseshit. Yes, they both played poorly, but these are your best players, and in an instant came switch on and make something happen. The rest of the team was shit, and none of them have half the talent that these two do. Why did they get to stay on? There were plenty of other shit players that could have been removed.

The game was over when Kreis made those changes. He got lucky and they scored.

Also, this idea that the team is better when Villa is not playing is absurd. Lalas even suggested it during the game. Ridiculous.
