No tactical change says Vieira.

Not that the statement is a surprise at all.

One question is what can we expect from LAFC? Pressing alone isn't enough - a team can't just flip a switch and suddenly start to press like the Red Bulls. That kind of tenacity and anticipation takes a lot of work.

Bradley is a really good coach, so I wonder what tactics we can expect.

ETA: I suppose LAFC could bunker (Portland), press (Red Bulls), or play it straight up (everyone else).

The travel philosophy has been to travel a day earlier for every hour of time difference, so leaving today would probably be keeping with that.

i could of sworn last year they spent almost full week in LA prior to the Galaxy game. whatever is best, just better not see tired legs, if so another strike against the preparation.

I was watching the last hour of the LAFC - Minnesota game last night. LAFC gave the Loons so much time and space on the ball -- we haven't had an opponent play us like that since RSL. Our game will be their third in 9 days and I can't believe they are going to be able or willing to switch to a NJRB pressing style to get us off our game. LAFC has extremely dangerous attackers and is entirely capable of scoring a couple of goals out of nothing, but they are really missing Urena up top and are much less dangerous with him injured. LAFC is a great expansion team but I am expecting a good looking NYCFC win to put us back near the top of the Supporters Shield race (2 more away games played than ATL and SKC).

Two big questions about the lineup this week.
1. Does V make changes to send a message?
2. Do we switch to 3 in the back from the start?

I say “yes” on 1 and “no” on 2.

Saying “yes” on 1 is only the start as you have to decide who sits and how many and both are guesswork. Based on what Vieira said post-game, do you know how many candidates there are?

I went with Herrera since midfield was a problem last time, Berget because Shradi is back and Sweat because.

You could make a case for Chanot or Tinnerholm sitting since they were subbed early. You could make a case for Maxi out and moving Medina back, or Medina out and putting in Shradi. The only outfield players who look safe are Villa, Ring and Callens.

Going to 3ATB seems reckless against a side with a great offense and a meh defense. I would rather see us try and nullify their attack with a defense which has generally been solid, and give our attack the mandate to expose theirs on D.

I'm not completely certain the changes you're listing above are the ones that would be sending a message.

There's much debate about who should start between Sweat and Matarrita, so plugging Mata in over Sweat isn't really message-worthy IMO. Isi was tearing it up before getting injured, so his doesn't really fall into that category either.

The only would would be Ofori over Herrera, and I can see an argument there, but I'm not quite certain that would be a big message. Ofori is starting to come into his own and Herrera has been struggling a bit as of late. I think that would be more of a not starting a guy out of form rather than sending a message to Herrera.

Wouldn't mind seeing Saad come in for Tinny, who has been a little flat of late. And I could also see Medina sitting.

No more sleeps unless you are lucky enough to nap until game day!

Could just be me but I don't really see a big difference between 3 ATB (343) and 4 ATB (433) especially if we play Ring at CDM with 4 ATB.
A 4-3-3 usually looks like a 3-4-3 in the attacking phase, but a 4-5-1 in the defensive phase. But it makes a huge difference in transition, IMO.

For example, when we made Ring the middle of the 3 ATB in the second half against Red Bulls, Ring was receiving the ball with his front to goal instead of his back. It allowed the other two CBs to go wider and push the two wingbacks higher.
