General MLS Discussion

My goodness, the Union are a shambles. I never thought I'd live to see it.

blake has been out with jamaica and they sold their best attacker. gazdag isn't having a great season and the rest have been average at best. but don't worry. 2024 will get an asterisk too. they would have won SS and MLS cup had they not sold carranza.

So Messiami (even without Messi) and Cincy are never losing again? Just unreal.

it's absolutely crazy that they keep winning. are they getting lucky? i haven't watched games to know. but the fact is they still have alba and busquets who can still make things happen if there are young guys around willing to do the grunt work.

FCC are still a good team. Acosta runs that show and they've had a few other players step up their game to fill in the holes created with vasquez and barreal leaving. but mostly, acosta running that show makes them super dangerous every time they go forward.

I don't know where to look to verify this and can't remember where I saw this, but I saw someone write that Miami have lost on xG like 8 games in a row but had 18 points during that stretch. Pretty crazy looking stat.

watching el trafico and wondering if HRD could ever fill an 80k stadium. i don't think we could.
It's a heck of a big crowd. It would be great to grow into something close to that, though: 50,000 at MetLife for a derby would be pretty awesome.

On another note, it's impossible to not be happy for Kei Kamara. Dude is such a player, and such a great personality too. He's always been one of my favorites in the league even though he's always been the opposition.

not a chance we'd have 50k at metlife. redbulls can't even fill their 25k stadium and NYCFC fans don't want to go to NJ.

The first Hudson River Derby at Yankee Stadium in 2015 was sold out, 48,047. Even this year, we got over 30,000 at Citi Field.

Are we filling Metlife? No. But there is a market for that game in New York. There just isn't a venue big enough where it would work.

Having our own park is going to be a huge factor. And Brooklyn FC coming into the USL is going to be another growth driver. If we create an NWSL team (and we should) that's even more of a spur to growth.

But it starts with our park. Having a tangible home of our own, a destination, will mean a lot more coverage on the back pages.

And are we ever in the perfect location across the street from Citi Field. Not to mention the rest of the project. It's going to be a happening.

I know the attendance was over 30k on paper but if you look at the videos from the game it sure doesn't look like 30k...

Can't compare original hype season to now.

Even if they opened all of Yankee stadium. We couldn't fill it for a derby. We'd get our usual 30kish

Let's play MLS alphabetization.
Screenshot 2024-07-06 at 8.02.05 AM.png

The drop down list starts off in reverse alphabetical order, but chaos quickly arrives with Kansas City between Toronto and Seattle. I was ready to write it off as typical "because MLS," until I realized that it makes sense if you assume the word "Sporting," which is still typical "because MLS" but at least has some logic to it.
Keep going. San Jose above/after St. Louis works if you spell out "Saint." Salt Lake nicely fits in the same place whether you assume the "Real" or not.
But then you get Orlando between Portland and Philadelphia. Each team name has words after the city name and nothing before, so that's not the answer. Mistake? Even someone who cannot remember the order of letters (or who gets confused by reverse order) should know not to split two items that start with the same letter. Am I missing something?
New York is above New York City and LA is above LAFC, and both are wrong by the reverse order rule. But maybe once again you use the SKC rule and assume the "Red Bull" which alphabetizes after "City." Similarly for Los Angeles "Galaxy" and Los Angeles "FC." So we clearly have a hard, fast rule. Whew.
Fuck, Miami should be between DC and Houston if you assume "Inter." FC Dallas also would squeeze in there as well, and CF Montreal would go between Charlotte and Austin.

Look. I just want to look up stats. On a drop down list that includes only city names the order should be based on city names. As presented (looking at you St. Louis). Honestly I hate when they order by Inter not Miami, and FC not Dallas, but then they do that Sporting KC thing and this list is a pain in the butt. And go home, Orlando, you're drunk.
