General MLS Discussion

Not playoffs specific nor is it our social media team so I thought this was the right place for this. (Don’t hurt me Lion)

I thought this was a really creative post that RSL put out today. For those who don’t have Spotify, this is how Spotify layout’s everyone’s music for the year.

So the state of the league address is happening right now.

Someone asked "Had RSL beaten portland, the game would have been at YS. what do you think of that?"
and Don Garber said that he thinks we would have sold out yankee stadium had it happened.

Some other nycfc questions too about attendance and affect of MLS Cup on nycfc fanbase. Idk why they're asking these to Don Garber, but whatever

I was thinking about that, too. We would have absolutely had 45,000 fans in the house. Would have been epic. Next year, hopefully.

carles gil named league MVP as expected.

what's less expected is taty getting so little votes. he's been integral to our success this year. yes he had a scoring drought, but his off the ball work and relentless engine and leading the press were critical to every success we had this year.

to be last in the votes under daniel shalloi... doesn't make sense to me.

Agreed.
I also always find the vote breakdown interesting. Taty did best -- but still not great -- among players.
And the players really spread out their votes while the Clubs and Media coalesce. The top 5 vote getters got about 59% of the player vote, but 91% of Club votes and 82% of Media votes.,

Interesting. I wonder if there was a bit of regionalism in the vote.

Gil was the runaway favorite, and Mukhtar was the only other guy who had a chance. One of Taty's problems is that he finished really strong, which means a lot of minds were already focused on other players when Taty was making his case.

And as MG points out, Taty is the only one in the Top 5 who got his highest vote total from other players.

Finally, I looked through the history and it seems that nobody has ever won this award twice.

Who gets the Club votes, Sporting Directors? And what do they see in Joao Paolo Mior? Everyone else on that list has more goals or assists alone than he has combined (14).

And someone at MLS needs to make a decision on his name. He can prefer whatever he wants, but MLS needs consistency. He's Joao Paolo on the MVP vote chart, but J. Mior on the stats page. Pick one.

Very similar problem with Talles Magno who always shows up as T. Bacelar Martins on the stats and lineup pages.

Funny how the league is trending towards hiring managers with MLS experience but manager who came from Europe with no prior MLS experience won the Cup.

i think fcc are trying anything to be mid-table at this point.

EDIT: just remembered there was a rumor before that they were tryin to get curtin. so they couldn't get the head coach and so they felt desperate and went to the guy next to him.."you.. what about you? you wanna come to our club? please? we have a pretty new stadium!"

they also got lots of cash and willing to spend. so we will see what they can do in next couple of years. the roster has maybe a couple pieces but needs a lot of work.
