They always said that yes. I can't find a reference to it, but I remember them saying it. Multiple times.
Those are the sort of things that tend to happen, but people give them too much weight, until there is a single counter-example and suddenly it doesn't matter at all.
Not an important detail, but I noticed in all of the teams in review graphics they use the name of the location where each team is from in the photo. Oddly, our team just said New York instead of New York City so I was curious what they did for RBNY and they are the only team that says their team name/monicker “Red Bull.” Both LA teams just say Los Angeles too. The only other odd one is Austin which says Austin FC as well as DC United. Very tiny unimportant detail but I found some what entertaining.

DG: In 2022, we're going to have our earliest start in the history of our league. The games start on Feb. 26, so we will really be pushing the envelope more than ever before.
We continue to have to manage the largest geographic region for any league in the world, and the most weather changes and time changes of any league in the world. As such, the likelihood of us playing in a dramatically different calendar is far, far, far in the future and we would only do it if we saw the value for our fans and for our competition. Today, we don't see that value.
